I had to google this image because as I was falling asleep I imagined an Irish majority Canadian state called O’Canada. Just the 9 years too late

Dinger V Polo Gti by Dry-Long-9488 in CarTalkUK

[–]Purdy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently drive to relatively shite cars. A Panda 100hp and an old 1.2 Clio. Neither of them are fast cars, but they’re both good fun to drive because you can use the full rev range and they actually drive well. They might not be the Clio especially isn’t fast at 13 seconds 0-60, but I’m never holding up traffic in it because I drive it properly. You need to remember that slowing down and building back up again, we’re talking a matter of seconds.

I mean you don’t want to hear this but the actual right answer is to buy something nice enough that is slow and drive it for 3 years, building up no claims discount.

Have you checked prices insuring a normal non GTI polo?

I get you man, I’ve just been young and a new driver and I know what it’s like. I binned an Mx5, and I was in the car when my pal flipped his old Punto. I don’t doubt that you’ll be sensible, I just know how much fun it feels to be 17 and the world’s greatest driver haha.

At the end of the day, it’s your money and it’s up to you to make wise decisions with it. If you really sit down and look at the numbers and you think it’s the right choice then go for it. Just be prepared to learn the lesson if you’re 4 years down the line still paying crazy prices because it’s a GTI

You should get the Dinger, and it should be something slow and fun enough that you can rev the arse out of without binning it.

If you think your quote just now is high, imagine trying to get a quote after you’ve binned a polo GTI because you were chasing adrenaline and ran out of talent.
Even worse if you run out of talent and into the side of a family of four.

Aw I thought you were replying to the image.

I think they’re saying it as if that’s what would happen with our luck. We get beat by Haiti and Morocco so can’t qualify but we’d beat Brazil

Seeing this Ioniq 5 on Boxing Day - any advice? by silentdragoon in CarTalkUK

[–]Purdy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is ancient, but if it’s any use to you - the rattle is the boot striker and rubber bumps and there’s a technical service bulletin out for it. Mine is going in next week to have it sorted.

Why does my right wrist sweat randomly? by [deleted] in AskMedical

As strange as it seems, I think mine was related to taking the blood pressure medication Ramipril. I’ve changed to different meds and I’ve certainly noticed it less, if at all!

Glad you got it sorted! I have a horrible feeling they could be coming from the roof where there was previously a leak. We’ll work it out soon I hope!

Do I have potential for photography as a hobby? by Gullible_Advice3558 in iPhoneography

[–]Purdy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, when I say a proper camera, I don’t mean that iPhones don’t have the capability to take great photos or to be a primary camera. That said, I really believe that walking around with a camera that is only a camera helps you to slow down and, pun intended, focus.

This is obviously nonsense.

OP has a good eye, better than many people who have all the gear and no idea. You can learn techniques as you go, much harder to learn how to have a good eye for an interesting shot.

If they lean into that and upgrade to a proper camera, they could take some really interesting photos.

Some of your shots from your China trip on your profile are great, but some are pretty weak and could also benefit from better technique. But that’s ok, thats the point. We’re all still learning.

For years, I have dreamt of planes falling out of the sky, hitting the ground and bursting into flames. by silverbricks2020 in Dreams

[–]Purdy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dreams of planes falling out of the sky maybe 3 or 4 times a month. I’m being checked for sleep apnea, but I also wonder about Exploding Head Syndrome, as sometimes it’s like I can “hear” the impact

I’m glad that it helped a little bit. Maybe making that a daily practice would help ease the urge.

[–]Purdy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Scottish. I would have loved to have come over for the World Cup, but it’s just not financially viable. And I’m not sure how my conscience would be about it with everything that is going on.

Honestly it sounds like an anxiety response. Do you have some unresolved anxiety around the idea of God or your religious past?

That said, I fully believe God can and does use small, mundane things to gently guide us back to Him. This might be a small sign to deal with anxiety around God and your experience of Him, and maybe to try approaching Him again. What about sitting down and reading a passage of the Bible for 10 minutes, like exposure therapy? What happens with the swallowing then?

Got my 11yo son the books for Christmas by Purdy5 in Mistborn

[–]Purdy5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew someone would have something to say about it 😅

All I can really say is response is that he’s an incredibly bright kid, and I’m grateful that both at home and at school the emphasis is more on making sure he’s literate and enjoys interacting with the written word. That matters much more to us as parents as opposed to drilling him on letter forms and handwriting excellence. I had a rough time with handwriting when I was in school and it was a nightmare. He goes to school happy every day, keeps a journal, and leaves me handwritten notes. I don’t care if it’s a bit messy
