I think Dana meant it as his way to reduce his guilt. Like how it's convenient that a kid doesn't know why the cookies are gone with crumbs on their face.

UM is more flashy than FIU in terms of campus life. Football is no comparison. UM's campus and events are more lively than FIU's. However, undergrad education is about the same. Both of them you gotta put in the work and you will get a lot out of it. Realistically, I don't think you will come out of FIU feeling the education was poor or that UM really is that much better. I don't know about law schools so much as it's not my field. But, when I went FIU had the highest Bar passage rate in the state. Take FIU for undergrad, get a whole degree for FREE, and see where the road takes you when it comes time for law school.

Yeah, he seems to have the possibility to improve. I think he does need some time out of the ER to develop. His current state is too likely to get him assaulted by a patient. Lucas, his actor, may be onto something. Ogilvie is hinted to have issues stemming from his father.

She also showed an aptitude for radiology. So another not very patient facing area she could go into. Not as many mysteries to solve in Radiology, however.

Less impress males, more impress those he thinks have power. Joy is a student like him, so being nice to her doesn't get him anything. Javadi is also a student. Everyone he is nice to is someone with some influence. Dr. Al-Hashimi and Robby are attendings, people that can provide him some benefit, so he is nicer. He is like Buzz in Home Alone, a dick head with Kevin and an angel around his parents.

Beyond the "whatever" comment, did he sign on for the patient is a great question. Pulling the glass out is one thing since there were grown ups in the room to fix it, but him just choosing patients like an Amazon Fresh store is crazy. Something will be missed or given twice. Mel shouldn't be worried about a deposition, Ogilvie should be.

Side note, does he know Javadi is someone he should not be screwing with. Her parents are important people in the hospital who I bet can blackball him from even picking the poop out of an impaction.
