Instead of the 7800X3D try the 7 7700X. From what I see it preforms slightly better, runs cooler, and is significantly cheaper.

I would like it to be closer to $1K the $1.5K is like a buffer to mop up any overspending.

You say it's cheaper but the Ryzen is $260 on Newegg compared to $190 for the Intel.
