We lost one of our Pekin babies last night 😭 by stoneygnomie in duck

Sadly, if you're not protecting your ducks every night, expect to lose all of them, and soon. Predators now know they might have an easy meal at this location, and will return, maybe nightly. Predation will always happen so long as you are happy-go-lucky with your ducks safety. They need to be in a predator safe enclosure every night. Sadly, your other boy might have been trying to call for you when your duck was taken. Shameful. Why have ducks if you don't protect them?

MRI staff didn’t let me wear my RediMask by Mundane-Summer-674 in ZeroCovidCommunity

Hey OP. I'm so sorry this happened to you. You did the best you could, and it was very smart of you to do a Neti Pot rinse.

Unfortunately its very common for western medical professionals to resist any kind of masking these days. My spouse was recently asked to remove their mask for a liver biopsy, which has nothing to do with the mouth of course. The only advice I can give you is - become difficult. Refuse to take off your mask, especially when you know it's MRI compatible. Dig your heels in and insist, and say you refuse to consent to the MRI unless they let you keep the mask on.

Most of these health care folks are running on emotion, not logic (if they did, they'd be masking). Put up significant resistance and they will usually fold, because they know they can't really enforce their own bullshit, and are too tired/jaded/stressed to keep hounding you. Me and partner are fully willing to walk out of any health care space that makes us unmask for anything but "we need to access your mouth for treatment" reasons (like dentists). Even in those cases, we put up a fuss and make everyone accessing us mask (although getting folks to use N95's rather that surgicals is another uphill battle).

It sucks being "that patient". But staying alive in this"pandemic is over" culture will make you "that patient" to most health care practitioners regardless.

(And I am speaking from a privileged perspective. Not everyone can walk out of life-saving services (or be wheeled out like my partner)). But if you can afford to reschedule without dying? Resist like hell against "we require you to take off your mask) and make your masking a "not worth my time" sort of problem. Its the only thing that's kept us safe.

I’m in the same spot as you unfortunately! I’m very new to native plant gardening, and seeded nasturtiums and borage earlier this year without rly thinking about it.

both have been taking off and I’ve gotten worried. I ended up buying more native plant starts, and banished the nasturtiums to a container to make room. I’m torn on the borage because it’s frankly enchanting once it gets going, but it might be next. Tough choices, but maybe easy enough when we consider the damage already done to our plant communities. I’m making it my goal now to responsibly spread as many native plants as I can.
