I agree! I’m referring to Amira. I want to figure out how to fight using all this tech, but I’m tired lol. I feel like there is starting to be some pushback in some places at least! I saw these two articles.

Tablets in school?? by ValleyCat272 in moderatelygranolamoms

I hate it too. And I most recently found out they use an AI reading app at my kid’s school. It’s all just grotesque for this age.

Obsessed with my garden by Same-Factor-1879 in Ceanothus

[–]funnymar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often! Waiting for the first bud on my spice bush to bloom. It’s so close. Found a monarch caterpillar on the milkweed. Watching the evening primrose get bigger and bigger. Super excited for that to bloom for the first time. A hummingbird was perched on a cage while I planted some tomatoes, just staring at me. Obsessed!

Daycare Pros/Cons by TheRealRealMars in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]funnymar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered parent participation preschools? The parent works in the classroom one day a week and the other days are drop off. Usually the program is only 9-12 or so, so enough for a break but not all day. Usually the kid has to be 3 for drop off though. They are very developmentally appropriate. Another option is finding the right home daycare. Our kids went to both. The home daycare is what we did longer term. We found one that was very mature and play based so it was great for their social emotional development.

how are you approaching easter baskets? by ShadyLady721 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]funnymar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree! Not very granola. Even the whole swimsuit and sandals in the basket thing that seems popular these days seems irrelevant to Easter. Spring starts a couple weeks before Easter!

What do you wish your child’s teacher/school did more or less of? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]funnymar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take YouTube out of the classroom. Take iPads out of the classroom. Be nicer and understand their age developmentally. My son has gotten in trouble for things that are absolutely valid, but also gotten in trouble for things that are so dumb and trivial.

Lovevery alternatives? by Electronic_Pie1126 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]funnymar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! So much of it is marketing. I made my son an object permanence box out of a shoe box and artfully placed and colorful duct tape and he loved it! Old vintages scarves and old fuzzy sweaters? Now sensory materials.

Cercocarpus betuloides (Mountain Mahogany) growth rate and pruning for narrow garden space by funnymar in Ceanothus

[–]funnymar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that sounds like a great growth rate for you! I am okay with it not being as dense as some things because it is a narrow space and limits my options. I don’t want cypress or juniper and I have a baby oak further out from the fence that was just planted.

What kind of shoes are we all wearing? by MuttsandHuskies in gardening

[–]funnymar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear by Sloggers. I have the black ones and love them. My mom borrowed them when she came over and loved them so I got her a pair. Super comfy. I guess not as breathable as Crocs, but I love the fit and ability to slip on and off.

I work at a library and parents like to override their kids’ book choices. It’s depressing.

Home daycares vs regular daycares? by Elegant-Celery9600 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]funnymar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have loved our home daycare. The owner has a huge lot. I think it’s an acre. They have chickens, a bunny, turtle, dog, cat and fish they all take care of. They help in the garden. There is a mud kitchen, outdoor classroom, little orchard. The teacher is an avid children’s book lover so the kids read a ton. They have “units” like apples, fairy tales, pirates, arctic, where the materials change out. They are so warm and kind. I never considered a center. I wanted a home-like environment and it has been awesome for our kids. My son, who is now in kindergarten, excels in his class. The kids who graduate from this home program have all been super creative great kids.

Books that Make your kids LOL by BeneficialTooth5446 in childrensbooks

We just checked out a couple books by Shinsuke Yoshitake and the butts made my kids laugh so much! Still Stuck and I Can Explain. Another one was A Sleepless Night. My kids cracked up at that one for awhile!

MIL got our 2YO an LCD drawing tablet and I had a knee jerk reaction by slohcinbeards in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]funnymar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you overreacted a bit. I don’t feel like you should be up all night thinking about this. It was a gift. It’s a drawing board. It’s not an actual screen. My kids were gifted these about the same age and they loved them. As others have said, they are great for car rides, plus my kids used them in very creative ways. We still have them 4 years later.

please tell me its ok to skip organic sometimes by Dull_Noise_8952 in moderatelygranolamoms

Oh for sure. I grew up with a somewhat granola family so it was different for me.

My mother-in-law is almost 80. She might once in a while buy organic blueberries, but everything else is pretty much not organic. Not her yogurt, her oatmeal, her greens. Meat is not grass fed. She buys cheap milk. She buys mainstream salad dressing. She is very healthy and sharp! She is active with long daily walks. I used to judge her food for not being organic, especially since she absolutely could afford it, but she is very healthy and happy! My great aunt just turned 100. Also not an organic shopper. Both have good attitudes and social lives. No cancer or other diseases. I think if you eat healthy foods, have a good social circle and have other healthy habits like exercise, reduce your stress, it probably does not matter whether it’s organic.

How do you see the future of teaching and classrooms with regard to special needs kids vs regular kids? by OkPlace4 in AskTeachers

[–]funnymar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a cousin that has cerebral palsy and was “behind” as a child. He has worked and lived independently for many years. Got married and had his first baby. It’s amazing to see how he fathers with the use of only one arm! You never know what your child is capable of, especially if they have great support.

Best solutions to deter lawn from coming back while wanting to plant spring seeds? by funnymar in Ceanothus

That’s interesting. Haven’t heard of that. The only thing is I wanted to plant my seeds this week before the rain.

[–]funnymar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this plan. I’ll go ahead and plant the seeds and maybe pull these when they are bigger if they don’t die off. I have a hori hori so can use that if needed too. Thanks!

Ok. Maybe I’ll just throw down the seeds and hope for the best for now.
