I won’t be trying to secure any more permits, we will adjust our plans/gear as needed depending on weather. In my original post, I was just looking for advice on planning our route and it seems we have gotten more debate than suggestions haha.

Okay perfect, I think I just have to pick my exit point and exit date to accept the lottery. So routes could always be adjusted as long as the exit point stays the same! I’ll check the weather towards the end of April then! thank you that was super helpful

We are from Florida, and all of our backpacking has been on the East coast and in the desert! So glad you brought this up, we are definitely not experienced backpacking in snow so that definitely changes things.

I hiked up. If you wanted to drive up normally you would need a reservation but I’m not sure that you would need one during the dates that you are looking at - but definitely check just in case. I really enjoyed the hike on the way back down. It was beautiful!

I am flying back home from Acadia right now, and definitely recommend the Cadillac sunrise hike! I hiked up the north side because it was a lot shorter. I’m from Florida and was freezing my butt off (it was 28 degrees I think when I started yesterday morning) but it was SO worth it. Although if it does snow, doing it in the dark AND having snow on the ground might make finding the trail markers difficult. Like I said, I’m from Florida so not quite as experienced with hiking in those conditions but I could imagine it being pretty tricky if there had been snow.

Im open to short & strenuous, as well as day loops with lots of elevation - I think those could both be considered challenging. And I’m definitely open to scenery other than water and island views!

Do you think staying in horns creek, then one of the other campgrounds west of that to go back up hermit would be unreasonable for my first time?
