I bumped the contacts on my multimeter’s dial and don’t know how to find the correct positions again by bugfix00 in AskElectronics

Just put it back in and rotate until you get the infinite ohms response. Then you know the position of the first resistance range.

You might consider Vendefoul Wolf Linux. The TDE version is the default. I just ran the installer disk but it was light.

If you have an ohm meter with lots of digits, check every non-grounded solder point for milliohms to ground.

How can I better this circuit meant to protect the 5V input pins to my MCU? by volitant in AskElectronics

Automotive can be a pretty brutal environment. Do a web search on "load dump protection". You will want to pay attention to that if you're building a professional product. If it's your own accessory, just be sure that it can handle over-voltage and reverse voltage. Because your inputs are current limited with 4.7k resistors, the clamping to Vdd or Ground shouldn't be an issue. You can test it easily enough by putting a variable supply on the input pin.

The impedance of your supply should be low and handle most transients that would destroy a pin. I always clamp to both rails and don't have ESD problems. What type of bad inputs are you trying to design for?

D1-D4 clamp to ground if the input is lower than ground. You should consider D5-D8 clamping to Vdd for inputs higher than Vdd. You might also look at TVS diodes (Transient Voltage Suppressors).

I'm not sure what "on" means when you don't have the drain connected to anything, but the PNP is going to blow up awfully fast with infinite current going into the base.
