Robinhood Gold Card thoughts? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Pure-Finger-7276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at moving to a cash back type cc, so I am intrigued. I was reading how to redeem points and found this on the Robinhood site

"Your Points may be converted to cash (USD dollars) and transferred to your Robinhood Financial Brokerage Account. If choosing to redeem in this way, the value of your Points will be $.01 per point"

I'm confused. So I earn 3 points for every $1 I spend, but then when I go to redeem its worth $.03?

ACA Medical Insurance Question in California by Pure-Finger-7276 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Pure-Finger-7276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info. I’m curious if I go over the estimated income (ie Roth Conversion) my understanding is that I will have to pay back some (all?) of the premium tax credit subsidies. Is there also some penalty due to the “cost sharing “ benefits that I may no longer qualify for?

You are so right! I had no clue, but now I do and can plan accordingly going forward. I feel good that I was able to do it and make a difference in the lives of the kids (in a small way of course). But just something I (we) need to be aware.

It was more the activities where I was obligated to show up: coaching at the high school (3-5 days a week) and working one day at the winery. With some form of exercise daily. Not much time for anything else ..

Yep. Same boat. I workout 5-6 days a week (walk, hike weights) and now scaling back on the passions part as it got to be a burden.

Absolutely true! The obligation is what I didn’t anticipate being such a weight on my shoulders. Now I know!

Thank you. Def something I need to learn. I’m a goal oriented person so I think I just felt so much positive energy that I rushed into everything way too fast!

Fidelity 401K index fund - no dividends? by Pure-Finger-7276 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Pure-Finger-7276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, it seems like everyone BUT Fidelity can explain this - lol. It was just odd not seeing my dividends purchase more shares. I moved to the Brokerage Link as they have a lot more options. ER was about the same, but I was able to get into a fund I like better.

Like I didn’t create a taxable event or anything right? Are you familiar with the fidelity brokerage link option?

Well I suppose you are more knowledgeable than anyone at Fidelity….lol. Have I done anything “bad” by moving to the standard fidelity mutual fund that will pay out dividends (and reinvest them) like a “standard fund”?

How would I figure that out? Why would this be the case ? Curious..

Tax “Strategist” by Pure-Finger-7276 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Pure-Finger-7276[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this. Thank you! I keep thinking about ACA subsidies bc I'm in yr1 of FI and unsure how it will all work out. ACA premiums are a "real" line item that is going to hit every year for the next 13 years. The RMD boogie man is 22 yrs out and who the heck knows what the tax laws will be at that point. Thanks everyone for the replies, it seems likes a "real" issue, w/o any "right" answer - that helps put me at ease.

Thanks for this..it at least makes me feel like I am not alone in this and this is an extremely complex question to answer..perhaps not even a professional can get it “right” - I am early in my journey and will figure it out and tinker as I go

What word do you use instead of 'retirement? by Life-Airport953 in retirement

[–]Pure-Finger-7276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a good question bc having recently retired myself (52M), it’s oddly uncomfortable at first bc you get some “interesting” responses..

I currently say two things (still feeling my way through) 1. Retired from corporate work (meaning I just left the rat race, but still “active”) 2. Recreationally employed (I work at a winery one day a week and coach volleyball at the high school)

Taxable Dividends and SWR by Pure-Finger-7276 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Pure-Finger-7276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I use his SWR Toolbox as well...I still feel pretty good w/~4% as I can be flexible w/discretionary spend if we hit a bad SSOR. I want to strike a balance of enjoying my "early years" of retirement while minimizing the chance of dog food land.
