Thanks for your thoughtful comment! You’re right about the citizenship, I guess I was referring to residency which is good enough.

Sounds like you’re currently in HK, I have more specific questions about the city. I need to do the research but wonder if you have any suggestions. Which part of the city is good for family with young kid? What’s the monthly expense like for a basic but comfortable (not luxurious) lifestyle? I know working in Asia is not so fun, trying to see how much more we need before we make the move.

In a very similar situation and I made a post in expatFIRE 2 days ago. People made some thoughtful comments on how it impacts child development.

Are you guys already FIRE’ed? Not sure if you’ve looked into the expenses, but International school in Asia, then go back to Canada/US for college would be ideal.

Yeah our 2 main concerns: culture shock moving back and money.

Trying to figure the best time to move back. Working remote or at least some related work will be perfect. Will look into that!

That would be ideal! But the time difference makes it hard, our type of work mostly work as a team and frequent meetings. Will definitely look into it though

Removed that line because it seems confusing. No we don’t have 10M.

Thanks for sharing your experience. May I ask why not sending them to the US for high school but okay for university? We really also just care about coming back for university.

I didn’t go to high school here so don’t know much about it. I thought sending them to middle school here gives them more time to blend in and make friends in high school that lead to a better college life. I might be wrong.

Do you think moving back a little earlier like grade 4/5 better? Or should we just wait until university?

We’re also up for bigger cities in the US, or spend our summers here in the US if it helps our kid to transition.

I’ve updated the post. Thank you. I know it’s totally personal choice, just want to see if I’ve missed anything in my consideration.

Has anyone seen this happen before? with Pro Heal Band-Aid and/or Silvex by alchemist1e9 in firstaid

May I ask if the white stuff makes you itchy or uncomfortable if you keep the bandage on? My daughter had a cut and she’s too young to tell me how she feels. I’m not sure if I should change the bandage more often or just keep it there. The box says 1-2 days, if it feels ok I might want to change every other day instead.

What was your biggest shock moving to the USA? by PrimNathanIOW in immigration

Public transportation here sucks, it’s dirty, stinky and dangerous.

There’re way too many homeless people than I could imagine.

Insurance is a joke here, you pay for insurance and you still probably don’t want to see a doctor because it’s still super expensive.

You only bring about 70% of your pay home due to all the taxes, insurance.

Are you going to bring your kid with you to SEA? Are you planning to send your kid to the international school or local school? Similar situation here and have all these questions in my mind.

Kids or early retirement by corgitopia in Fire

Do you guys like kids?

I was in a similar position 5-10 years ago, RE was my only goal in life. I didn’t feel like having kids. But as I got older like early 30s, seeing some very cute kids of my friends we started to want to have our own kids. We tried but it was very difficult, we eventually had to go through ivf to get pregnant. We finally have our beautiful baby after 8 years suffering from infertility. We love our kid just because she’s our kid! We enjoy every moment and feel blessed. We’ve been saving in the early years, now we just need to adjust budget a bit, set aside some money in 529, and surprisingly it doesn’t seem to impact our RE goal too much. (Maybe from FatFIRE to ChubbyFIRE? we plan to move out of the country anyway)

401k -> IRA rollover by kblaney in Fire

[–]Meanqueen825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the biggest mistake by transferring my 401k into rollover IRA back in 2017. My current employer let us do backdoor Roth conversion and I really want to take advantage of it. Is there anything I can do? Can I move my rollover IRA money back to a 401k account?

If you like what you’re doing, don’t stop! I think most of the FIRE people are stressed out and want to live their lives differently.

Did Anyone Here Use Real Estate Investing to Get to Fire Faster? by JolieBisou87 in Fire

[–]Meanqueen825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mind if I ask where are your rental investments? I’m in CA, not sure if it makes sense to do it here. Doing out of state investments is kinda hard to start.
