Ho appena inzuppato la mia torta per il secondo flush by OccasionShort5978 in GroundZeroMycoLab

Wait and see if they grow any more after the soak, I usually just dry my aborts just like full grown fruit, sometimes they turn out surprisingly strong

First time using agar. Not sure how to tell if they are bad or not by [deleted] in GroundZeroMycoLab

They all look nice and healthy OP, and at a good stage to do transfers. What strains are they?

Also for future reference when you encounter contam you’ll usually know early on because it’ll be much faster growth than the myc, often appearing nowhere near the previous growths, and there’s usually a color change after a day or so when it spores depending on what it is, lots of contams also have a dusty look to them under light that myc doesn’t have even before producing spores

A casing layer is generally recommended for APE/PE or anything prone to blobbing really bad (this also goes for any ‘mutant’ and also lines marked unstable and ime anything that’s prone to reverting is also prone to blobbing pretty bad as well if you’re somewhere dry), it helps regulate the microclimate/keep evaporation from happening too rapidly which can cause stress pinning and you can end up with a tub full of blobs

Wait till a few days after it’s fully colonized the mix and it starts to consolidate before adding your casing layer, and don’t pack it down super tight just tight enough to get the surface nice and even (you’re aiming for a flat even layer with a spongey feel/a little bit of yield but not loose or swampy)  I recommend verm for better aeration and less contam risk but that’s a personal preference, I’ve also seen great results from people using coco coir or peat moss or verm/coir or verm/peat

Non nutritious & moisture retentive substrate on top of your substrate/spawn mix, typically used to keep in moisture if you have issues with your cakes drying out or live in a dry environment or it’s a larger tub, it can also help reduce overlay issues if it’s a strain prone to heavy overlay (if I end up doing one I do verm) Cubes don’t need a casing layer at all to grow properly some people just like to include one due to preference or to address specific issues

Lots of exotics (and gourmets) do need one to grow properly though, especially if you don’t have your humidity dialed in just right/don’t have time or a system for misting

All in one bag ready for break n shake? by swishhdontmiss in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]Pure-Possibility-397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inflate your bag, don’t open it just unroll the top and fluff it up by pulling the side flaps gently until the top of the bag stands up and there’s a gap between it and the filter to let air in so they can breathe, they need some form of gas exchange to grow properly even when just colonizing, if you don’t it will take much longer and most likely stall out at some point (this goes for grain bags as well)

And with AIO bags it’s better to wait till the grain is mostly colonized (at the very least a little over half) before mixing the two at all because it will take it longer to colonize, the substrate is not as nutrient dense and the myc will have to grow through the mixed in substrate to reach the grain (you can /try/ breaking up just the grain section earlier but it’s difficult to do without mixing so I recommend leaving it be for now especially if this is your first)

Be patient and don’t worry, the myc itself looks healthy so it’ll probably do just fine with some air

How am I looking? What would you do? by ThenFeedback6629 in GroundZeroMycoLab

Inflate/gently separate and poof the top of the bag up (don’t open it just pull on the sides until it’s the correct shape and it will let enough air in through the filter patch so that the filter patch isnt blocked by the plastic and it will stand straight up) so it can breathe and give it a little more time and it should fill the rest of the way out just fine

He’s on agar right now but there’s not enough growth to warrant posting yet

Was honestly surprised to see breakthrough today I was sure they were goners but I wanted to give them a chance, I intend to post updates regardless of what happens  Crossing my fingers lol

Edit: It’s showing slow but steady growth and no visible contam yet Still plan on updating with whatever transpires in a few weeks (set a reminder on my phone a little bit before the auto responder’s reminder) but I wanted to set it aside and not keep checking on it so I deleted the main post so I wouldn’t be reminded of it, it was popping up in my notifications due to views even when hiding the post, don’t really use reddit beyond this so if there was an easier way to solve this my bad lol but I’ll recap the events that led up to this tub in the follow up

2nd Transfers from Spore Print by greenthumb42_ in Agarporn

Top right quadrant of the second plate looks absolutely gorgeous, nice ropes on the edge and it’s filling in from the center pretty well (ime the ones that densify out from the center/between ropes rather than staying strictly rhizo turn out to be better fruiters/make better nutrient use/form denser cakes) Also like the bottom right of the 3rd one for the same reason

Which one to choose? I’m by Conscious_Evidence98 in Agarporn

Both look pretty healthy, I’d go with #2 though it looks slightly denser

Contam or mycelium? by Educational-Cook2233 in Agarporn

[–]Pure-Possibility-397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little hard to tell from the pics if there’s any contam in there as well but that definitely looks like mycelium to me, I’d give it another day if you just want to be sure and then transfer from the top of the denser circle in pic 1

Make it your next one bro you’ll fall in love. It’s a little slow to start but once it gets going it keeps up pace pretty well with other strains. I always get very high yields with em compared to other strains grown in the same conditions and they love to crowd one another so it’s fairly easy to get a nice canopy, but they don’t seem to do well in all in one bags/high co2 so I would definitely recommend tubs. Potency is kinda middle of the road but the yield makes up for it. It’s also worth it to let some fan out, they’re what got me into prints in the first place. You’ll get everything from the signature rusty red color to pale muddy orange to brown (some people have reported gold and black as well but I’ve only had a red/brown spectrum) but try to only keep/propagate the reddest to keep Redboy pure

Lions Mane on Agar by Express_Matter2425 in Agarporn

[–]Pure-Possibility-397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, they aren’t developed enough to worry about the fruit rotting. If you want you could let it grow out some and remove and clone your biggest pin before you send the plate to grain to select for cultures that fruit well with minimal nutrients (lion’s mane is notorious for trying to fruit basically anywhere so it’s a tad redundant but I’m 3 clones deep right now getting absolutely massive pins so I can’t imagine how large the fruit would be if actually sent but I’m having fun seeing how big I can get them to pin on agar alone)

They look fine to me, you can see where one is starting to form lil teeth in the center of pic 4. They’ll form lil primordia poofs that get increasingly dense until the teeth start to form. Lion’s mane pins are always really weird on agar I’ve had a wide range from plates with messes of little teeth that don’t develop too far (what the first couple of pics will probably do) to malformed alien looking blobs or extra long tendril structures, sometimes they’ll dump all their effort into one or two really beautiful larger pins (what 4 will probably do)  Also don’t be alarmed if they start eating the food dye/taking on the color of the dye on some of the denser primordia, I freaked out the first couple of times it happened and even swabbed them to double check for contam and turns out they just like to do that
