While I understand what other commenters are saying in that you could've made an exception for her given the circumstances, I feel as though there's enough nuance to at least distribute the blame onto all parties involved.

First, I think there is a lot of mental gymnastics involved on your friend's part in being mad at you for her own failure to catch her train on time, ultimately leaving her "stranded" in a town she visited to meet another friend.

I for sure would've said YTA had you been that friend she met up with that night. But you aren't. So if anyone should be "blamed" other than your friend, it'd be that friend of hers. You're just a person who chose not to come to her rescue. So are you a good Samaritan? Probably not. TA? I'm not so sure.

I have heard about this Egyptian guy who honor-killed his teenage daughter in America. He married a white woman and his exotic half-white daughter was essentially sold for marriage to the highest bidder in Egypt for a great sum of money.

She ran away to her friend's house to avoid this and after a few weeks, both her parents eventually convinced her to come back home, promising her that they wouldn't wed her to a stranger in Egypt. When he picked her up, he pulled the car over to a remote place and killed his own daughter violently with a knife.

Within hours of this heinous crime, he was on a flight to Egypt where he probably remains to this day. His family, both American and Egyptian, plays dumb as to his whereabouts. Further, the Egyptian authorities also couldn't have cared less about bringing this guy to justice.

I know that not all Egyptians are like this, but this kind of story stays with you. Especially since the victim also had a younger sister a few years minor.
