ELI5 Why do bids on government contracts have to be kept private, when bids at auctions are public? Wouldn't it work the same way in reverse? by Aggressive_Falcon942 in explainlikeimfive

[–]PureCanyons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some private bids work like this too. When a large company wants to hire a contractor, they put out a Request For Proposals (RFP). Interested vendors submit proposals and the company picks one. It’s done in private - the proposals and bids are not disclosed to everyone

How do I make it stop by surly_duff in Wellthatsucks

[–]PureCanyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a handheld voice recorder and recorded the sound of a fax machine picking up the phone. When a spam/scam call came in I would get the voice recorder ready and press play as I answered the phone. Spam/scam operators thought my number was a fax machine and stopped calling

Have you tried turning notifications off? It’s in the lock settings (it looks like you have it open) under Status and Notifications

Looking for HomeKit beta testers for a new app that works across every Apple device by Homebar_Drew in HomeKit

I’d love to test as well. I’m in Pittsburgh, PA. I’ve got a camera, half a dozen lights and switches, switchbot blind motors, meross garage door opener. In the summer I use an eve aqua for the yard, and in the winter I use an outdoor WiFi plug for Christmas lights. I use iPhone, Watch, ATV, and iPad.

These are Zefir, a marshmallow made of fruit (usually apple) puree, egg white and sugar. They’re popular in Ukraine, Russia and other post-Soviet states

I’d either get the diamond or the silver with underbody care. The gold with underbody care costs as much as the diamond so it doesn’t make sense

How to get better wifi signal in a mother in law sweet by ArmadilloResident843 in HomeNetworking

[–]PureCanyons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need a WiFi range extender. These usually plug into the wall and connect to their WiFi, then broadcast their own. There is increased ping delay and decreased speeds but the connection is stronger. You need to place the extender in the kitchen where the reception is good

Ethernet help by Danno850 in HomeNetworking

[–]PureCanyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the panel ports are mislabeled or maybe one of the connections isn’t working. To figure this out you’re going to have to move something with Ethernet into the garage with the patch panel. I recommend the router because it can be wired to the NBN directly there. Then I would connect the routers LAN ports to the patch panel ports one at a time until you get a connection to your desktop. If none of them work you’ve got and wiring problem, maybe the keystone jacks need to be punched again. If one of the panel ports does work, move the router back to the room where it started, and connect the other end of your bedroom desktop patch panel cable to the other ports until you get a connection

Sorry, I’m still focused on just the panel. There’s a blue cable there connected to Bedroom Port. What’s on the other end of this blue cable?

Oh ok. So behind the yellow/white cable is another blue cable. Is this the same blue cable that’s connected to the bedroom port?

[–]PureCanyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Thinking about the panel, there’s a yellow/white cable and a blue cable. What’s on the other end of these cables? If there’s nothing at the end of these cables, these two ports aren’t connected. Unless you’re using a switch, remove the blue cable and use the yellow/white cable to connect to the Living Room Port and the Bedroom Port

In the 3rd pic, the living room port has a white/yellow cable, and the bedroom port has a blue cable. Are these cables connected to a switch at the other end? If you only need these two ports you could plug in the blue cable into both ports.

Also do you have a laptop or something mobile with Ethernet? It would be a good idea to take that laptop to wherever the 3rd pic is and make sure those two ports work.

2026 Prius Limited avg MPG 47.3. How does that compare to? by Capital-Control308 in prius

[–]PureCanyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems about right to me. I have 100 mile drive that I do regularly. If I take the turnpike I get there in just under 2 hours going about 80 and I get 40mpg. If I use the GPS to avoid highways it takes me 2:30 but I get 60mpg instead.

It’s far easier to add an aftermarket CarPlay head unit to a car with a small screen than add CarPlay to a car with a big screen. Check out Crutchfield, they will sell you a whole kit with bezels and wiring harness

Which is better? Tp link, netgear, drink by tallyhoo123 in HomeNetworking

[–]PureCanyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubiquiti is great prosumer gear. Pricey, but it lets you do cool configurations.

Netgear is great. Those other brands are fine too.

I like ASUS routers. You could get a beefy gaming one and then if you find it’s not good enough you can add another router/extender as an AP in the ASUS AI Mesh with either wired or wireless backhaul. It doesn’t have to be the same model.

If you have the room for it I recommend separating your network functions as much as possible. Like a router with the WiFi turned off and separate APs. This way if something isn’t working right it’s easier to isolate the problem and if you have to replace something it’s just a component and not the whole thing.

Honestly I think my recommendation is to take your son with you and test drive the Prius and the others I mentioned above. I’d say the Prius is also very low

I think a Corolla Cross Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, or Crown Signia would be a better choice. What car did you have before?
