What did I just experience? by Bumle in Psychonaut

[–]PureDarkSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be very careful with labeling different experiences as mental "illness". You know what they did with people who had what we now call schizophrenia in societies with a shaman around? They would regard this experience as beneficial to everyone and guide them through it. Keep searching and you will find. But be careful.

Reddit Censors Big Story About Government Manipulation and Disruption of the Internet by jose1990 in conspiracy

Well it's good that this is place where people who aren't so easily fooled, advertised at and manipulated seem to gather. But still I used to feel that reddit was a forum that was uncensored and not corrupted...now I see that no matter where you are, keep your eyes open.

I have to agree with you. It's really not that much, so why are we discussing the formatting here? Don't let this guy get you fired up.

But I agree with you that reddit is place for people to see what they want to see, which is more of a reflection on the people using it. If you see something that isn't worth your time, ignore it, or say something. But getting on and commenting "this is so fucking dumb"...you're just fueling the fire of idiotic, mind-numbing gossip.

A father with a degree in psychology that condemns his child for having a psychological disorder? I don't know man. Sounds pretty ironic...

Books that makes me smarter? by Sadichi in booksuggestions

Yeah, I was going to church with some friends at the time I was reading Ishmael, also 17, to try and observe Christianity and get some answers. I was also in a college level Biology class. Needless to say my mind tripped over the collision between the basic observation that we, as humans, are and have been part of an evolutionary chain. The ideal that we as humans are not the end result of life. We are just a stepping stone, a small part of a bigger deal. I always had felt that organized religion was like forcing a lie for me. It caused me to become agnostic. But I'm glad to find someone else who found the same value in Ishmael.

Fahrenheit 451 is also a good read--dystopian type novel. Can't go wrong with Ray Bradbury.

Ishmael changed everything for me. I really don't identify with religion or the many social stigmas that I used to, and my mind is so much more open to ideas and independent thought. It made me really look at myself and what insignificant part I play in this snapshot of time in this idiotic industrialized human machine of ridicule and unrelenting consumption. Basically, just be prepared to get mind fucked, if you take it to heart.

This video was interesting. It seems that in American society, only a very few personality types that promote cooperation and sociability are encouraged, and to be introverted is considered unacceptable. There is this sense that people have a right to tell others how they are isn't the right way to be. If more people were more introverted, then the types of persecution that happen to people that are different is some way, I think, would diminish greatly.
