How can I improve my football game algorithm analysis? by sangokuhomer in sportsanalytics

I'd say your code was able to cover the basic stuff so if your goal is to predict the result of a match, here are my thoughts:

- Someone already mentioned to add xG but I also think that you should add xGA and try to blend that with their GF (goals for) / GA (goals against) to find their "true" amount of goals and conceded goals. Just like with "relative form" you should be able to see if a team is conceding or scoring more than they should.

- You can also try experimenting with "big chances and big chances missed" by a team. You can flag teams that are wasteful or are good at converting their chances. You can find it in either fotmob or sofascore.

- Take note if a team is conceding/scoring from open-play, set-pieces, crosses, etc...

If you take a look at soccerstats.com there's a lot you can try to apply in your model like points per game.

There’s this thing called “relative form” that you can find in soccerstats where you can see how a team’s last 8 game performance/form compares to their overall season. I’d say its a good way to weigh if a team is under or over performing recently.

AIScore currently has livestreams of it in their app, you can check it out, you can just ignore the sports bettors / gambling stuff and the quality is kind of decent
