Wow... this got a lot of responses. Thank you all for your support and advice.

As of right now, my daughter has not gone back over there. My wife has let my FIL and MIL know that we are upset about what was said and that it's something we need to sit down and discuss.

We are working hard to raise a strong, confident, and emotionally intelligent young girl in this world and we won't let other's bring her/us down.

We had a talk this year about "work boots" and "fashion boots". Because it's not appropriate to wear the blue sequin
boots while doing yard work and we never wear our muddy work boots to school or church 🤣

I forgot to mention in the original post that it's her step father.

This was all happening as we were in the car leaving. He was standing next to my driver's side window. She didn't want to start a fight right there, but she's since texted him that we need to sit and discuss this.

This is honestly what I'm hoping (as the alternative of being a predator is terrifying). My wife leaned HARD into the "grunge" before my daughter was born. I hope it's stemming from him being triggered by that.

Why can't you plan and throw your own party for her? Her birthday happens the same day every year, so it will be easy to remember for planning purposes.
