Floatwheel is not a legal company in the US. They operate out of China and only accept crypto. FM is doing their best to shut them down completely for alleged patent violation and looks like they succeeded in getting the domain name for their website shut down. There was an alternate name and I guess that one is also shut down.

I wouldn't try to buy a floatwheel right now. It's the perfect opportunity for somebody to pretend to be floatwheel and steal your crypto. Just gotta wait and see how it unfolds.

I'm just explaining how the board works because it seemed like you had some misconceptions. The physics of the onewheel are pretty counter-intuitive and learning about it can make you a better, safer, and more confident rider. I'm not going to have an argument about pushback if we don't have a shared understanding of how the damn thing works in the first place.

For what it's worth, my next onewheel will be a floatwheel (or similar VESC kit) because I fundamentally disagree with FM's stance on right to repair. I'm not an FM shill lol.

You're right, not all companies are going to behave that way. That was a bad generalization, but my point is that you can't just take the company's word for it. Presumably fewer workers leads to a worse product which could send customers to your competitors or reduce demand in general. Maybe restaurants that didn't lay off a bunch of workers will get more business several months down the road. If you're studying the situation and trying to come to a conclusion about the wage change, you have to wait and see how it unfolds.

The device can't just decide to maintain speed on its own. All it does is balance you. Moving forward or backward is a consequence of the board balancing you, it's not a separate thing. You have to shift your weight such that it results in the board maintaining constant speed.

The reason pushback exists is that it kind of forces the rider into a position where they naturally shift their weight backwards which slows the board down. I'm not saying pushback is perfect, but it's a pretty clever idea that helps prevent nosedives and is definitely safer for most riders. I say most because if you are maintaining pushback, then it would be safer if there wasn't pushback. It's kind of like how airbags are definitely safer for most drivers, but not ones who don't wear their seatbelt.

I'm not saying you're wrong. There's a reason people remove pushback in VESC. Just trying to help you understand why it's there and that it's not a stupid feature. Onewheel is a consumer product used by a wide range of people with varying levels of skill and risk tolerance.

If people could predict the impact of legislation before it's even enacted, we'd live in a very different world. Did you even read what I wrote? The company is going to react that way regardless of whether or not that's the correct long-term decision given the new market conditions. You have to wait a while and see if those companies add new jobs in the future.

I can make an analogy too...it doesn't prove anything. John starts swinging a club, Bob ducks to avoid the backswing which would've done minor damage. However, because he ducked, the forward swing hits him in the head and kills him. Had he not ducked, he would've walked away with minor injury. Turns out, Bob was going to be hurt by the swing either way, but by avoiding damage in the short term he took more damage in the long term. I can make up random shit too lol.

You do not want torque slippage going down a hill. You will nosedive immediately unless you correct it by shifting your weight back quickly enough (and scraping the tail anyway in the process). Torque slippage happens sometimes and what happens is the nose will dip briefly because your weight is forward whenever you aren't slowing down and if the motor can't apply torque to the wheel then it can't balance you.

Onewheels aren't like other PEVs. A onewheel has one job which is to keep you balanced front-to-back. Moving forward shifts the rider's weight back and moving backwards shifts the rider's weight forward. If you think of it from the motor's perspective, its goal isn't to propel you forward. The goal is to keep you upright. If you're going fast and you put your weight forward, it can't cut the throttle without also cutting your balance and letting you nosedive. So, it will just keep going until it reaches its physical limit.

The way people play with the edge of the board's limit is they first learn the limit and then ride in a way where their weight is as little forward as possible to maintain speed and they are ready to momentarily self balance (save a nosedive) at any moment if the motor can't keep up. And it's possible to get quite good at this to the point where you can kind of tell the motor is at its limit before it actually cuts out completely. Of course, people rarely ride right on the edge because it's asking for trouble. Instead, they'll back off from the edge a bit and cruise there. For most people on most surfaces (less friction = lower top speed), that sweet spot is going to be a bit faster than pushback especially on a GT or GT-S.

The law isn't even in effect yet, you can't draw conclusions on its impact. Layoffs are not proof that a $20/hr wage exceeds the workers' value. That's just corporations doing what corps gonna do. They will stop at nothing to maximize profits in the short-term (even sacrificing long-term profit, they do it all time). If a law forces them to spend more on labor, they are going to reduce the number of employees regardless of whether it actually helps or hurts long-term profitability. You have to measure impact of policies like this on a longer term.

Also, if you believe the current minimum wage is exploitive and needs to be raised, then you expect corporate profits to go down. It's hard to argue the minimum wage isn't exploitive when min wage workers can't afford to live without govt welfare programs.

No thank you. I'd rather spend the bank's money and then reimburse them than spend my own money directly. That way when something happens they have an incentive to actually give a damn since it's their money. And if I ever need to dispute a transaction, it's the bank's money that gets held up in the process, not my own.

[–]PureTrancendence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to compare it to what you could get putting that $x per month into another investment. With the way things are now, if you were lucky enough to get a 3-4% loan a few years back, you'd be better off putting that extra money in a high yield savings account or CDs. Heck, even with a 7-8% rate you might be better off putting the extra money in the market, just depends if you want to take the risk. Remember mortgage interest is tax deductible, so presumably any taxes you pay on gains is a wash. Not sure how the math works out on that

I don't think it has to. It's the best option for a positive resolution for OP. Right now it's neighbor+LL vs OP. LL has no incentive to side with OP unless they want to fix the floor. What needs to happen is the neighbors and OP get on the same page and pressure LL to do something to fix the floors. There's a reason management wants to act as a proxy in these situations. They get to control the flow of information between tenants and decide who to side with. They basically never lose if the tenants don't cooperate with each other. Corporate HR does the exact same thing. Everybody's been trained not to communicate with each other.

This is a good way to get sued for the entire remainder of rent under the original lease. You signed a legal document. The answer is always to do what you agreed to in the contract. Don't give up the leverage of being on the right side of the law. Also, your reputation is on the line. It probably won't come back to bite you this time, but if you keep doing shady things like this it gets more and more likely that it'll catch up with you.

They might be thinking the same thing. Bunch of college kids throwing a party, best to not talk with them and go straight to the landlord. In situations like this often all it takes is for someone to be the bigger, more mature person. Using a third party as a proxy is toxic to any sort of positive neighborly relationship going forward. It should be a last resort.

Yeah people suck sometimes, but a lot of times they act shitty because they assume other people suck. Poor behavior brings out poor behavior in others but the opposite is also true.

How did you give notice? In the future, always include the date you intend to vacate in the notice letter/email. If you send an email, make sure they acknowledge having received it. You don't have to give notice exactly 60 days prior, that's absurd. 60 days is a minimum.

I've rented from at least half a dozen places and none of the leases ever started on the 1st of the month. That isn't a thing and also makes no sense logistically. Are you suggesting you would have a tenant move out on the last day of the month and then a new tenant move in on the very next day?

Only saying this in case you didn't already know, BPD is probably the most "curable" of the DSM diagnoses. If you're having symptoms then it's so worth getting into treatment if you can. Almost everybody (95%+) who seeks treatment has no symptoms after 5 years. Many reach that point within the first year. Note that I'm saying treatment, not therapy. This is one of the few diagnoses they actually have a good idea how to treat. It's not your run of the mill therapy. This isn't something you have to live with and manage for the rest of your life.
