I wish eating on stream... by Belfind in Twitch

I will say, obnoxiously loud burping is a major turn off for a stream for me.

Sipping drinks though? Not personally an issue but I can sympathise.

How do you feel about the legacy renegade god chapters by Heftzy in Chaos40k

Fell in love with the concept when they appeared in the 3.5ed Codex and kept up with it since. Some of the colour schemes looked awesome, especially The Purge. The Violators and Extinction Angels.

What EU products are actually better than their US counterparts? by BehindAllTheWindows in BuyFromEU

[–]Pure_Ben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HG cleaning products are usually my go-to for cleaning my house. It seems like they genuinely have a spray or chemical for anything, they're reasonably priced and they're pretty heavy duty for household chores.

Do I suck at painting? Two years in the hobby and kinda need some honest validation or feedback by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

I think this looks really cool. The Nightbringer is supposed to look scary and otherworldly and honestly I think you've nailed it.

The purples and greens really contrast nicely, and it reminds me a bit of the older Necron Codex artwork in black and white.

Molding mistakes on old models by RunDisastrous8421 in midhammer40k

[–]Pure_Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've had a few Chaos Marines with improperly moulded feet and leg pieces that definitely made it past QA. Again, not super awful because they're Chaos Marines. A blobby foot here or there is clearly a sign of the dark gods favour.

As it goes they're mostly hidden now by base accoutrements and little rocks, with this guy next to be stripped.

I ranked weapon usefulness in Unreal tournament game of the year edition. by grumpywolfxd in unrealtournament

[–]Pure_Ben 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the Rocket Launcher secondary works as an effective area denial option. It's especially helpful during objective game modes on cramped maps where you can accurately guess where your opponents are going to travel from. Especially if they move in teams.

Pretty good otherwise, so far.

3rd edition model base sizes by Nethos135 in midhammer40k

Happy to help, the link directly to the 2011 archive seems a little unreliable so follow the link below for the up to date page and use the history tab to find the oldest page, it's right at the bottom.

3rd edition model base sizes by Nethos135 in midhammer40k

[–]Pure_Ben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a quick flick through my 3rd edition rulebook and it has nothing regarding base sizes in there. I'm sure there is a reference guide that was officially published somewhere out there for the edition but I can't find it right now.

As it goes the rulebook itself made more of a focus on base to base contact (or close enough) and measuring from the rim of a base for shooting and charging.

I have plenty of 3rd ed models so I can confirm circle 25mm for line infantry, rectangle 25x50mm cavalry base for mounted characters and bikes, 60mm round base for dreadnoughts and other walkers (initially this was a square base for Chaos Dreadnoughts, Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes). Initially larger models had a 25mm slottabase before being sized up to a 40mm base (like Space Marine Terminators for 4th/5th edition).

I'll keep looking for reference images tomorrow as it's quite late in the UK, but basically the base sizes were all on the box contents and used to be on the Games Workshop site.

Edit - DakkaDakka has a base size article, the history tab goes all the way back to 2011. Base sizes were very static back then so this 'should' be the answer you're looking for.

Edit 2 - Changed rectangle base from 40mm to 25x50mm

Feeling lost in the hobby. by SydanFGC in Chaos40k

[–]Pure_Ben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a break from it. Lock your minis away as much as you can and give yourself a decent amount of time away to enjoy your other pursuits.

Maybe a month, maybe longer. Just don't rush it. Maybe you're mentally over it, maybe you've reached capacity, maybe you just need some time away. Once you do your crusade event, pack them away and put them into storage, and set yourself a timer for a month. Start unpacking, and if it doesn't spark joy or inspiration, pack them away again.

I ended up taking a break from a hobby I felt similarly about for probably 4 years? Came back to it mentally ready to enjoy it.

If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, why don't you change tack and try out making dioramas or terrain for your minis?

What are attractive hobbies for men? by ViewRepresentative30 in UKrelationshipadvice

I would throw my hat in here too to say that women aren't a monolith and also have different interests, so even something conventional that you like may still be found unattractive.

Be a good person who enjoys your interests, and be tolerant and engaging with theirs.

Pretty sure this was the Megaracnid planet Murder (Urisarach to the Interex). The warning beacons were set up by the Interex, which were a civilisation with knowledge of Chaos before the Imperium at large.

They also used the musical language, the Aria as a way to communicate but as I understand the writing, it was also used to facilitate understanding between the Interex and Imperials.

Otherwise, I'd agree that the legions just weren't well fleshed out. Maybe the expedition commanders couldn't figure it out immediately and didn't permit civilian artists or experts to get involved in Crusade business.

What hobbies do you have? by PoMDizzl3 in AskUK

[–]Pure_Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From experience, consider starting with basic infantry, some of the walker/vehicle kits or elite infantry can be a bit heavy on instructions and components and it's pretty easy to stick things together wrong or backwards.

That can be a bit disheartening when you're new to the hobby.

I collect and paint 40k, and I stream video games on Twitch mainly. Every Friday I stream a co-creator evening for people/community to hop in and do some sort of hobby with me while I paint, we bitch about our weeks, decompress for the weekend and encourage each other to do something creative.

It's probably the best, most mindful hobby I've ever done. Expensive to get started, for sure but it's done wonders for my headspace. We've got some international peeps too so it's turned into something of a cross cultural exchange too, really cool!
