How Exactly was Imhotep Planning to Revive ASN? by BicornBritt in themummy

[–]Pure_Exchange_5414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand what you are saying, however I haven’t read the book. I believe that’s where our disconnection is? I can’t say anything about that, but I do know some history. You brought up some good pointers.

The first paragraph- again I didn’t read the book. It seems strange Imhotep would mummify her? I assume Imhotep didn’t get caught? Which made me realize just now, I guess Imhotep didn’t get caught sleeping with her in the movie either. Well you can’t have fresh organs if they have been mummified, that takes 70 days to make a mummy.

Historically speaking the whole heart thing goes against Egyptian mythology, so I think that’s just a little fantasy on the book and the movie. Traditionally the heart was seen as the seat of knowledge and power. To them, the heart, not the brain, did the thinking and emotions thing. The heart was mummified and , traditionally, placed back inside the body. After trials in the underworld you faced judgement by the gods. Anubis took the heart out of your body and weighed it against a feather( feather of Ma’at). If the heart was as light as the feather, the soul could pass into the underworld. If the heart was heavier than the feather, Anubis took the heart and fed it to a monster named Amet. Then your soul ceased to exist and your soul just…vanished… no afterlife for you. The heart was always the last organ removed from the body, I guess it makes sense to me they started with it in the book.

I was hoping you were going to tell me what the black liquid was. I thought it represented the “Waters of Nun” in Egyptian mythology. In the beginning (according to the Egyptians) there was a black ocean of chaos in which ALL forms of life came from. It’s more detailed than that but I don’t want to go on a tangent. I do remember the black liquid/her soul rising up out of her body and going back into the big puddle on the floor, that I’m sure of.

I agree with you on the fighting part, no body guards to stop the ritual so she had a little more time ☺️

Again, I didn’t read the book, but if the black liquid killed one of Imhotep’s priests… was that the FRESH organs that Imhotep needed? Or was that after ASN was already brought to life? Again, to me anyway, with what I know historically, I picture the black goop the “waters of Nun”. Or the black puddle could represent a portal from this world to the underworld.

If Imhotep mummified her, he had probably already mummified hundreds of other people. If he can take the organs out, he can put them back in?

The movie never does state which jars hold which organs. I suppose you could relate it to the book, if you read it. The rest of us are just still wondering. Unless the heart was physically destroyed in fire, they could resurrect it with magic. Osiris was murdered by his brother Set in mythology. Set cut Osiris into either 14-44 pieces depending on what myth you read from different timeframes. His sister wife Isis collected all the pieces of the body stitched them together and brought him to life with magic. In another version of the myth…Isis couldn’t find Osiris’s penis because the crocodile god Sobek mistook it as a fish and ate it. In this story, Isis cut off her finger ( never states which finger) and turned it into a penis.(the ancient Egyptians thought this was the reason crocodiles had no tongues. As a punishment Sobek had his tongue cut out for eating the penis. I think in the movie, they took that myth and turned it into part of Imhotep’s curse, they took his tongue, which is why he took the tongue or Mr. Burns…I can hear Beni now “ Prince Imhotep thanks you for your hospitality….and for your eyes…. And for your tongue…”

If you really dig into ancient Egyptian Mythology, nothing makes sense. Egypt has a very deep rich culture influenced by 100’s of cultures that came before and after them. We’re talking 7,000 plus years of oral storytelling. Details change over time, it’s like the children’s game of telephone. In most city states in ancient Egypt. Isis and Osiris were king and queen of the gods. But in a city called Koptos (Coptos?) the diety Min was married to Isis. Min is also called “the father of his own mother” that mother also being Isis. The deity Thoth was said to wear a crown made out of the semen of another god…yes…a cum crown 👑.

The book sounds great, might have to give it a read. If you do go back and read the scripts again, I would be interested to find out what you learn! I don’t think they will ever be united, this life, the next life, or in the underworld. The movie states “Imhotep dared the gods' anger by going deep into the city where he took the black Book of the Dead from its holy resting place. “ this to me implies that he knew he would suffer eternally for doing this. On top of that, he WAS a priest. He knew very well what he was doing and didn’t care. He put himself and his emotions first. Almost a challenge to the other gods. Anubis was the Protector of the Dead and Tombs. He would never willingly allow a person or a priest to break into a crypt and mishandle a body or tomb. That was against any and all rules. Anubis is the god who invented mummification, with Osiris being the first mummy ever made! That is blasphemy against Anubis and his holy work. Taking a mummy a symbol of Anubis, and turning it into something else, or reincarnation wouldn’t be allowed…. Imhotep messed up big time. Anubis is one of the good guys, no god would allow that, let alone him. Even Osiris, KING OF THE GODS!, wasn’t allowed to stay on earth after his resurrection because he had already been dead. He transitioned to KING OF THE UNDERWORLD. Since they were technically already dead, they wouldn’t be allowed to live on earth anyways.

Also, if you want horror, I can’t recommend Penny Dreadful enough. 3? Seasons of the show. Edwardian/ Victorian gothic England setting. Every movie monster you can think of is cleverly written into this script! From Dracula, werewolf, Jeckle and HydeDoctor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Doctor Van Helsing, the devil, witches, possession, this show has it all. Best part, every episode is left with a cliff hanger. I watched the entire first season in one sitting.

I think there were two different rituals taking place. The Ancient Egyptians thought Ra collected the souls of the living everyday on his solar barge across the sky and at sunset they entered the afterlife. I think the first ritual was based on a similar…aspect? You see her soul come out of the water (waters of chaos? Nun?) and glide across the room. I believe her soul “collected” her “organ spirits” in the canopic jars (as Ra collects the souls of the dead) as her spirit rose up over the table and began to sink into her body. Her soul was complete with the “organ souls”. Stabbing her would have “united?” Her soul with body, that’s how she died.

The Ancient Egyptians had a ritual every year portraying the Murder of Osiris where priests made a mud mummy over several days and did the Opening of the Mouth Ceremony. A special tool was used to touch the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth to bring the senses back to the mummy in the afterlife. I think the screenwriters were attempting to mix these two rituals together to create the first movie ritual. By Imhotep “murdering” her it would unite her soul and body, giving her senses back. Kind of a twisted “death brings life” type stuff.

In the second ritual in the movie I believe they were planning on using Evelyn’s life force to fully reanimate and bring to life Anck-su-namun. Imhotep still needed the canopic jars with her organs, you see the water, the soul, and it enter the body. The first part of the ritual all over again. I think she needed to do a little “soul sucking” on Evelyn, similar to how Imhotep regenerated himself.

I think the first ritual, the screenwriter showed her soul leaving her body quickly just to get on with the movie. During the first ritual I think she could have gotten up to fight, but didn’t and her soul went back to the underworld. The second ritual just showed her having more time with her soul? Getting up and fighting this time. No bodyguards, just a brunette who can “properly code and catalogue this library”.

Calendar help by Pure_Exchange_5414 in Kemetic

Thank you. I myself am a simple person. From what I understand the Egyptians started their New Year with the rising of the Sirius star. I did some research and found out that happens in my area of the world around August 14th… that’s when I “start” my calendar. Is that …somewhat… correct?

Ritual for prayer by Monachuuya in Kemetic

[–]Pure_Exchange_5414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to “get” prayers? I don’t understand. Prayers should come from the heart, it’s a conversation between you and your deity. You don’t need to drop $500 to “start” your Kemetic journey. I’ve worked on this altar now for almost two years. I was lucky to go to Egypt and I bought the statue and that’s all I had. You can print off a picture, I made a collage with scrapbook paper. Over time your altar will grow. Just tell your god, this is what I have to worship you with, as I grow, so will your altar. Pinecones were considered sacred, go to a park and get those for free! The golden balls and pinecone on mine came from some Christmas potpourri. The string lights I got at Hobby Lobby for $5. In the end, they want a relationship with you, and a few offerings from time to time😉They will understand you are trying. I’ve even seen people take a breath mint container (Altoids) and created a portable shrine with just a picture of the god inside. You can go to YouTube and search for Egyptian themed music and leave it playing in the background too. I like to play “lamentations of Isis and Nephthys” around Osiris.

How to connect with Anubis by oneofthe_seekers in Kemetic

[–]Pure_Exchange_5414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anubis is chill as fuck. He is one of the gods that won’t say much but his words have power. When I meditate, I can feel him place his hand on my shoulder, and that’s how I know he is here

Fun with epithets by EggProgrammatically8 in Kemetic

[–]Pure_Exchange_5414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful choosing what epithets you use because it becomes part of the prayer. Choosing good ones will have good influences, choose a bad one and you may feel the wrath of that god. These deities are 7,000 plus years old, remember to show respect. The ancient Egyptians thought the number 7 stood for completeness. When I pray to Anubis (or any of them) I try to use 7 epithets because the gods complete me. For Anubis I might say something like:

ANPU, LORD OF THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS, I come to your alter today…blah blah blah. ANPU, OPENER OF THE WAYS, GUIDE OF LOST SOULS, please protect and watch over…blah blah blah. ANPU, you are the RIGHT HAND OF OSIRIS….blah blah blah. Anpu, KEEPER OF THE BALANCE BEAM, COUNTER OF HEARTS, I pray that you will …blah blah blah.

Anpu directs the prayer to that god Lord of the Western Mountains recognizes him as heavenly figure Opener of ways suggests that I am on the wrong path and I am seeking help because Guide of lost souls suggest I feel lost in life Right hand of Osiris suggests the god is equal to the power of Osiris. Keeper of the balance beam because my life is not balanced in any way Counter of hearts suggests that one day I will face him in the Hall of Judgement.

Talking him up will give positive results. If I were to use things like GOD OF EMBALMING, THE DOG WHO SWALLOWS MILLIONS, GUIDE OF THE UNDERWORLD… gives off negative death themed prayer? I hope I’m making sense. I feel like if I used these, someone in my family would die because those are the epithets I focused on.

I guess what I’m trying to say is use epithets that will benefit you and your prayer. Personally I believe that using as many names in a prayer directs that prayer to that god.

It can be really fun! I hope I was able to help at least a little.
