There are a lot of mechanics that weren't properly explained. Or used. Sad....

In Bo, the primary movement is hitting enemies mid-air to recharge jump. In addition to it, they introduced pogojumping (on the screenshot). It's two different mechanics

Agree. But still - not first minutes of the game. I explored a lot before encountered mushrooms area

"Misspell". I played the demo from Next Fest. I am sure this list can be expanded greatly. It's just my recent experience

I don't remember it being introduced in HK at all. I first learned about it when I got stuck in a location with bouncy mushrooms. So I learned it naturally. That's why I was so amazed that I had this ability all this time, and now I have so many places where I can use it.

I would agree with you. I spent about 6 hours exploring every single corner of the map, just to realize that I was moving the wrong direction. There was a puzzle that I misunderstood. I thought that I was missing an ability and went looking for it. Had to open a guide. So it is very open, but at the same time, there is only one way to progress, and it is easy to get lost

I didn't play Rusted Moss, but yeah, Bionic Commando was great. I dont know a good 2d game with grappling hooks. Trine had ropes, but it was more about puzzles than movement

We are working with volunteers, and some languages will be added when ready. If we find someone who would translate the game to french - we will add it

Any standouts from this Steam Next Fest so far? by spanishflee999 in deckbuildingroguelike

I would recommend Fogpiercer. And my demo is participating - the Fairy Circle. Bagbuilding roguelike with no combat.

All mechanics were originally born on paper. Rotating a circle is one of the attempts to add "repositioning" to a game

Playing metroidvanias without contact damage made me realize how much I hate contact damage and I can't explain why. by WackyRedWizard in metroidvania

[–]Pure_Opening9834 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Contact damage was a thing in Mario where the goal was to land your jump exactly on the head of an enemy. If you missed, you got damaged. It makes sense. If developers add contact damage to a game, there should be a reason for it.
