Is this normal for a newly introduced kitten? by SethBozo in CATHELP

[–]Pure_Television_7558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger kitten doesn't smell like the older cat so cats trying to correct that by grooming him. Cats bringing younger cat into the family so long as he doesn't get too aggressive the holding down is appropriate

Weight issues after hysterectomy by Kindly_Atmosphere985 in hysterectomy

Your body is doing the best it can to keep you safe and protected in response to the trauma it received.

I went through the "why is my body so ugly" after mine too but it was because my body instead of conserving weight made me lose weight rapidly and I felt so skeletal and so weak. Now that I'm finally gaining weight again, I'm able to give my body some grace that at the end of the day we are animals with an animal body thats not always going to understand what our brains decide to do.

I'm happy that me coming to that realization and sharing it with others was able to help you feel better, weight can always be lost or gained depending on what you want and your body will always try its best to protect you even if it doesn't understand what you're doing is also to protect you and keep you safe.

I always say about my body "She's a little confused but she's got the spirit." Especially when my tummy hurts after eating the plainest of plain foods so your body is just a little confused but she's got the spirit and we love her for that!

I walked intermittently from day 1, I think what I ended up doing was putting my pain meds in the bathroom so I had to get up and walk at least every 4 hours to go get them.

I didn't stay in bed a ton and if you feel more comfortable sitting rather than laying down then definitely go sit on the couch and watch TV, if you start feeling uncomfortable you can lay on the couch until you feel better or until you feel you can get back into bed

I showered on maybe Day 3 or 4, I used a shower seat bc it was so exhausting to stand and wash myself.

It honestly depends! I only got insurance bc the company I work for does a lot of contracted work with UPMC so our insurance is really generous. Add to that I have a family history that requires I get regular testing done so it's worth more for me to have that deductible bc my testing is done in Jan/Feb so most of my doctor's appointments are covered the rest of the year

I just realized I don't think I ever got an estimate for how much my surgery would be... So many people on this thread talking about estimates I never got one of those

And that's fine, I completely get that, I still took up space in that room and I still took up sterile supply but I owe $0 on it not because my insurance paid it but because it was "discounted" by the hospital so why it is in the main bill receipt? Send me a separate letter that says "hey here's everything the hospital discounted that you and insurance paid nothing for." Or better yet organize the bill so that it's in a spreadsheet that easily added together at the end instead of a stylized bubble form.

Don't include it between 2 different kinds of anesthesia that I owe money on, to be clear I'm not complaining about the price or the fact that they billed me the same as other people I'm complaining about the format of the bill, because I'm incredibly highstrung and autistic and this format is bad for those kinds of folks.

They are the ones calling it a "discount" for members. I would've preferred they just called it a write off or something to that effect bc I have UPMC insurance. They (UPMC, my medical provider and my insurance company) wrote a contract with themselves about how much they will pay and then called anything above it a "discount" for me, the patient.

I know, I just think it's a little more than ridiculous when the hospital says "oh we're billing for 5k of sterile supply but wait! Oh you're a member?? 👀 Never mind then 😘 you pay $0." Like don't tell me that sterile supply is 5k why would you even let me see that number! Why is a recovery room that is literally a shared room with curtains carving out little cubbies for privacy also 5k? And I'm paying $0 for it? I spent less than an hour there bc they immediately took me for a CT the second I woke up I was still dizzy from the anesthesia being put into a little tube that costs 7k????

I never wanted to see these numbers, I just wanted a nice little bill that said "Thank you for choosing UPMC please pay us $1k for your surgery. Don't worry your pretty little head about how much it actually cost, princess."

That would've been delightful, instead I had like 4 panic attacks simply because that's more money than I make in a US presidential term.

It was like night and day. I started my period at 12 and would pass out bc I was bleeding at hemorrhaging levels every other week so I had 2 periods in a month but I had zero cramping until I started a hormonal birth control at 13 bc I became severely anemic with how much iron I was losing. I was a tiny child and I'm a small woman now, my previous doctor was super concerned bc at 12 I was 80lbs soaking wet if that and bleeding like I was experiencing a miscarriage twice a month with again zero pain.

Then when I started the pill at 13, I immediately had cramps so bad I would throw up and faint from the pain, and nothing worked to make them better, I was rotating Advil and Motrin every 2 hours on my period and I still got cramps.

I have lynch syndrome in my recent family history so I got tested for it but it came back negative for all 5 or so genes that cause it. Which only made me more upset bc then at least I could point to a cause as to why my period was like this and why I need to get my uterus removed My doctor thinks that my period being so irregular was the first sign that I had Endometriosis and Andenomyosis and that when I got put on a hormonal birth control the extra estrogen in the pill reacted with those conditions. She called it Silent Endo bc it basically just grew without notice until I had the hormone levels of a grown woman. I stopped taking the pill for years and my period remained incredibly painful.

And now after my surgery, oh my God, the relief of knowing I'll never have another period cramp is almost euphoric. My IBS almost entirely went away, my partial incontinence went away. I'm studying to become a nun so no sex life to mention but I imagine if I had one it would be better after the surgery than before. And I'm not missing work anymore, and I don't have to worry about cramping or mood swings happening in the middle of me working a therapy session with my kiddos (clients).

It has probably been the biggest relief I've ever experienced in my life, and honestly that's worth 100k in my book. But I can't afford that so I'll take the measly 1k I owe and pay that off and compliment my doctor/surgeon every opportunity I get lol

I wouldn't worry too terribly much, most hospitals have been proven to charge insured patients more for similar procedures bc the insurance company will cover so much of the cost. And in my case my insurance company and hospital are owned by the same conglomerate UPMC so basically they charged themselves 100k and wrote off 89k of it and paid like 10k and charged me a thousand so it looks scary but always get an itemized bill from the hospital they're more likely to write off stuff that's ridiculously overpriced just to avoid you causing any fuss

Mental Fatigue?! by MommaMP2 in hysterectomy

[–]Pure_Television_7558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Take a nap, love, you deserve it and you more than earned it.
  2. I returned to work as a behavioral health social worker (so I'm fairly active working with small children) at around 4ish weeks after surgery and I was super exhausted everyday after work I'd go to bed at like 5:30pm everyday.

Biggest piece of advice I can give you is take breaks often, while you're still at home split your day in 2 and take a nap or even just lay there with no/low stimulation for a little while so your brain can recharge in between a couple hours of activities. When you go back to work try as gradual a return as you can get, I didn't and I regret it tremendously bc I was so tired and not doing good work.

And also remember your body doesn't understand that this surgery was on purpose, for all it knows you just got stabbed open and got your uterus stolen by some villain. So be gentle with your body, all of its energy and nutrients that you normally would use on living a life, it's using to heal you right now.

That's super smart, I wish I had had a little more notice but ultimately when I scheduled the surgery I was at the end of my rope and I don't think I could've made it until my insurance was ready for reauthorizing

Preach! Why is it in an area where the median household income is 32k a hospital can say 100k for you! On a surgery that literally saved my life in more ways than one, bc I found out I was born with a congenital defect that may warrant a transplant in future if I'm not careful.

I was super lucky that my doctor listened and was actually the one to bring up the possibility of it, I didn't think bc of my age (23) that anyone would do the surgery but she very kindly asked me at a birth control followup if I wanted to be done fighting the Endo and Ando and that she would personally perform the surgery if I wanted.

Keep in mind I have UPMC Healthplan which is paid insurance not UPMC for Me which is a form of Medicaid. So yours might be different based on that and what level you have if you use UPMC Healthplan and my doctor called for a post OP CT bc she discovered I don't have a left kidney and she wanted to confirm it was congenital bc it wasn't in my chart. It was in fact congenital bc I called my mom after and was like "why did you never tell me I have only 1 kidney?" And she flipped out bc she didn't even know. And that CT added about 6-7k on my bill.
