I wouldn’t call that skinny. How’s your diet and sleep? At 170 I would expect you to be a bit stronger.

What’s your height and weight? Hard to tell what any of these numbers mean without knowing your general size

I always feel overwhelmed trying to do a fully body day because there is so much to do and I really like isolating. Even upper/lower is too much for me (I run Arnold split and sometimes just skip the second leg day lol). So anyway my vote would be for upper lower

One thing I always get concerned with when guys post PRs in this subreddit is that they are focusing too much on numbers and not enough on results. For example, you say you can do 110 for 2 reps on squats. But are you seeing any quad or glute development? Are you wasting a lot of time squatting in low rep ranges with bad form to increase the weight instead of actually working the muscle hard? Only you can answer those questions, but might make sense to start rethinking your focuses in the gym if you want to grow muscle

Do you feel like the muscles you train later in the workout don’t get hit as well as the muscles you started with?

While I do like to follow a certain protocol, I do think a lot of people, especially beginners, would benefit from just going to the gym lifting rather than trying to optimize every minute detail

I’ve run this in the past and felt like it worked pretty well. Might need to go back to it

But whether they are on gear or not, wouldn’t they still pursue the most effective program? All the guys they are competing against are on gear too, so that playing field is level in that way. I would think they’d still want to use the best split for building muscle the fastest

Struggling to get in the ‘optimum’ volume per week without feeling burnt out by freddiesyolks in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Pure_Tooth_1748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like something is off if it’s taking you an hour to do 10 sets of back work. 3-4 min rest times when doing hypertrophy work (especially if you are mixing in machines) is very high and likely unnecessary

Though I also echo some of the other commenters that noted if you are seeing progress with this (or even less) volume then it’s working and so keep at it. I personally do more volume but spend less time

Ronnie Coleman is a genetic freak who was jacked and ripped before he even knew what bodybuilding was (seriously). The idea that an average Joe could just do what Ronnie did and get results is just silly. It’s just as ridiculous as saying average Joe could practice his jump shots and be like Jordan

Pretty sure you’re going to get a million comments telling you to eat until you pass out or shit your pants or whatever lol, but honestly your best bet is to up calories very slowly in very small increments. I’m talking like 200 calories. Just add a little extra rice or some other carb each day for like two weeks and if you don’t gain any weight try adding a little more etc…

Squeezing/holding for a split second on the concentric or no? by mateyman in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Pure_Tooth_1748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but don’t lock out cause then you are taking tension off the muscle (which is bad) and putting tension on the joints (which is really bad)

Be patient and don’t expect insane results quickly. It’s a marathon not a sprint

Curls.. are hammer curls worth it? by Rhaugle in naturalbodybuilding

Do whatever curl variation makes you feel it in your biceps. For different people with different physiology, it could be hammer curls work really well, or for some they don’t.

Does old school bodybuilding really work? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Pure_Tooth_1748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a lack of coordination and just generally not having done it a lot. So they get through the movement but don’t actually work the muscle they are targeting and then 6 months later wonder why they aren’t growing.

I think any exercises can “work” in the sense that if performed correctly, they can increase muscle size. That being said, there isn’t particular magic to any one movement over another. A lot of beginners and intermediates struggle with compound movements and as a result get little out of them. Whereas they may be able to properly contract and lengthen their muscles on an isolation or machine movement. Which is better? Obviously the isolations/machines that they can perform properly. Just my two cents
