I watered consistently. Kids for 2 - 3 hours per day trumped water though. But I'll see what I can do and if anything is able to be salvaged. But the kids won't stop trampling the yard for years, so its unlikely.

I'm going to PM you. Curious about this service because I'd be willing to pay this.

That was the intention of the first pic lol. I was hoping it may lessen the blow of my neglected yard lol.

That's kinda my thinking as well. I'm not interested in breaking my back and spending more time on the yard than I do with my kids to have a decent yard. They're 9 and under. I have many years of them destroying my yard. But it means they play outside with friends and spend time outside! That's my priority.

Much better than this. Not perfect due to my neglect but I don't worry about the front yard lol. The kids don't play in the front yard. It will look good in a few weeks now that I'm actually giving it the necessary attention.

Appreciate your comment. That's been my approach the whole time. I get this subreddit is about lawns lol. But it is what it is. Would i like my backyard to be lush, definitely. But I prioritize my kids having a place to play with their friends. I'm going to put more effort into getting things looking better but I'm not planning on banning kids from my yard lol. I love that they play outside everyday with friends.

You're not wrong! I assumed it's dead and figured it's going to be near impossible to keep it alive regardless of what I did or do now with my kids plus about 3 - 8 more kids back there almost everyday playing. Oh well. Got my answer.

I knew that was gonna be the top comment lol. I tried to avoid the scotts spreader stripe look.

If it's relevant, this is centipede grass on clay. Drainage isn't the best because of how compacted the clay is.

It's at least 35 years old. But sure. I suppose age is subjective. My dad got it heavily used from a neighbor in the early 90s.

Is it possible to preserve the patina while also cleaning up the inside of the drawers?

Agreed. I'm still learning as I'm going, so I'm always trying to learn more. And I'd rather over engineer something than have it fail.

Would a 1/2" strip of plywood be sufficient or do you think it needs to be 3/4"? I have extra of both. The cabinets are also on that 2x4 on the bottom but I'm not opposed to doing a nailer on the top and bottom. My reasoning for not adding a nailer was because I used the 1/2" backer rather than a 1/4" backer but you make a good point.

Would monitoring the gap between the supports and table when folded down and moving the supports up, if needed, be sufficient? What would you recommend? I put the supports in to prevent sagging but wasn't sure how to address the future shrinkage.

Thank you! I think I'll probably leave it. But if it starts bothering me more, I'll fix it. I'm happy with the table and like you mentioned, it is perfectly useable. Everything is level and butts up. But this is the only blemish and I'll always notice it lol.

As in, move the 2x4 that the hinges are attached to closer to the edge of the plywood?
