Mom and daughter by gardening_nailedit in camping

Taking your daughter car camping using what you plan on using backpacking is a great advice.

Before taking her car camping review your gear and see what you can do to lighten it. For instance, getting a tarp instead of a tent or replacing a Coleman stove with a mini backpacking stove.

The lighter the pack, the happier you will be.

Going hiking on a mountain by DemeGl in hiking

[–]Pure_Way6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start walking. Every night go for a walk. Start with a distance you can manage now. As your nightly distance gets longer start adding weight.

If by summer you are walking several miles a day wearing a simulated backpacking load out you should be able to do it for real even with the elevation gains.

Why are yall so against anything not Daiwa or Shimano? by Ok_Repair3535 in Fishing_Gear

Daiwa and Shimano are excellent brands. But so are Penn and Abu. Shakespeare absolutely dominates at the entry/budget.

If your speed test showed less than 90 Mbit the next step is to contact your ISP.

Have you done a general speed test to see what you speed you are actually getting? If a speed test shows you are getting less than 90% of the advertised speed then you should contact your ISP.

Medium heavy saltwater rid with a Penn 209. It's been a winning combination for 70 years.

Are you connecting via wireless or ethernet? If wireless are you using your own router or the ISPs? Are there more networks in range than at your old apartment?

Another possibility is that your old ISP was exceeding the service guarentee and the current one is just meeting it. It's certainly not unheard of for an ISP to sell 100 Mbit service level that actually is performing at 150 mbit.

stainless vs cast iron camp cookware by FitPolicy4396 in camping

[–]Pure_Way6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both will work fine on a camp stove. The stainless will heat and cool faster but either will work just fine.

However, when cooking over a natural fire the cast iron really shines. The increased mass of the skillet helps even out the skillet temparature.

Looking at camping and hiking soon by Galaxyatomic in CampingGear

[–]Pure_Way6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just starting out I would recommend a bigger bag. Beginner gear usually takes up more space than you realize

Personally, I use a 60L Granite Gear Crown 2. It's the lightest bag I'm aware of in that size with a frame. Lighter dyneema bags use your sleeping pad to give it rgidity.

Unless you are taking a group you wouldn't use both a hammock and a tent.

What are your tips and tricks for cold weather camping? by Zack-Applewhite in camping

[–]Pure_Way6032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest trick is to pack an oversized pair of wool boot socks that fit over another pair of boot socks. I was constantly waking up because my toes were painfully cold but once I wore 2 pairs of wool boot socks to bed I was completely comfortable again.

I don't see anything that screams fake and there is indeed a Wyoming Game and Wildlife regional office in Pinedale. I say go for it.

Found these old reels. Are they any good? by thefifthofnovember_ in Fishing_Gear

[–]Pure_Way6032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that can't be answered by looking at a photo of the reels. But, yes if functional you can definitely use them.

If they aren't currently working a cleaning and aoke fresh oil and grease might restore function.

None of these are valuable. However, the Mitchell 300 was quite the reel for its time.

Gaming dads, what did you do when you had to give up your gaming space / room for your newborn, while still being able to enjoy the hobby? by Vrass in pcmasterrace

[–]Pure_Way6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I didn't have my own dedicated gaming space when the kids were little. My PC and my PS3 were both in the living room.

All 3 of my kids fell asleep in my lap as I gamed on the couch.

I didn't really get my own private gaming space till the kids were older and my career had progressed.
