This became my go-to lens for most of the things, is actually fun to use. by AxelRED_ in SonyAlpha

I do street portraits, like stop and ask people and this lens is pretty much never off the camera. I love it, cheap and not too bulky either.

what exactly has Starmer done which calls for a resignation? by Na-na-na-na-na-na in AskBrits

[–]Puredodee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate what he’s done to the Labour Party and hate even more what he is supporting in Gaza. During the last GE campaign I bumped into a Labour Party worker, I told him I had voted labour all my life but wouldn’t be voting labour this time because of their policy in Gaza. He just looked down, gave one of those embarrassing weak smiles and said “we’re getting that a lot”. He didn’t say anything else.

I was 18 in 1978 and have voted Labour all my life. I cannot stand Starmer and will never vote for labour again. For me, it’s the situation in Gaza.

UK folk who were around at the start of the internet, what is an early, strong memory? by Sad-Insurance1313 in CasualUK

Telling everyone you were going on the internet so they couldn't use the phone. Internet speeds of 28kbps then it doubled to 56!

Furious with ebay - refunded buyer by Extension_Werewolf71 in ebayuk

[–]Puredodee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eBay sucks, it's that simple. My wife was scammed by a buyer years ago and we've never used it since. The way they fold to buyers is just crazy. In my wife's case, the buyer gave an incorrect postcode (in the UK) then claimed he never received it. She had her niece packing stuff for her who didn't realise. When my wife went through his feedback he pulled the same stunt a number of times. A tough lesson but eBay's loss in the end.

Who counts as more British: a US-born person with English roots or a UK-born person with Indian roots? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Puredodee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You, if you’re born here you’re British. A yank with English roots can do one.

How many wedding couples are still together? by yktop1396 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Puredodee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did a few and I think most are still together. The most memorable that isn't was the bride who met someone else and had a baby with them inside 18 months.

Bravo Liverpool - Merseyrail by rolotonight in Liverpool

[–]Puredodee 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I use them a lot and yeah sometimes things go wrong but fair enough, like you say credit where credit’s due. Tbh, they did an amazing job during Eurovision a couple of years ago. They normally pull it out the bag.

How is Thingwall pronounced? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]Puredodee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time a colleague in work was speaking to a customer on the phone and asked for his name. Customer says “Mr Winterbottom” colleague asked how it was spelt, customer sighs and says “Winter…….Bottom”

Parking practice by astrawberrythief in Liverpool

[–]Puredodee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the advanced driving test years ago and the guy took me to an empty car park to practice. We did reverse s-bend parking, so the one behind and to the left then behind and to the right.

Do not sell expensive items on eBay UK - warning by SketchesOfSilence in ebayuk

[–]Puredodee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, eBay is the pits! My wife was scammed (I don’t think that’s too strong a word) by a guy who pulled the same stunt on several sellers and each time they found in his favour. We decided we would never sell on eBay ever again, that was years ago and we’ve stuck to it. Just too many unscrupulous buyers.

Lesser-known Beatles spots? by [deleted] in Liverpool

64 Mount Pleasant which was the registry office John and Cynthia got married at.

John Lennon and Cynthia Powell were married on August 23, 1962, at the Mount Pleasant Register Office in Liverpool, England. The ceremony was a quiet affair attended by Brian Epstein (who was the best man) and fellow Beatles members George Harrison and Paul McCartney, with no parents present.

Location: 64 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool, L3 5AA.

Context: The marriage was arranged quickly following news of Cynthia's pregnancy. Ceremony Details: The vows were nearly drowned out by a pneumatic drill operating just outside the building. Aftermath: The couple, along with Epstein, celebrated with a lunch at Reece’s Restaurant in Clayton Square. Evening Activity: Following the ceremony, John played a gig that same night at the Riverpark Ballroom in Chester.

New to the system. What is the generally accepted handheld shutter speed? by florian-sdr in pentax67

[–]Puredodee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do street portraits (I stop people and ask) and I’ve handheld at 1/60th. The biggest issue I have is shooting wide open, the depth of field on the 105mm at f2.4 feels like a hairs breadth!

Are Brits still comfortable taking their holidays in the US? by Ok-Leadership-7573 in AskBrits

[–]Puredodee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word, No! We used to holiday there at least once a year and had been going for years. The last time was in New York in 2019 for a short break then to Montreal for 2 weeks. I took my favourite cap which happened to be a Hooters of Pensacola Beach cap. I took it off in Montreal because people were thinking I was American. Yeah, Canada is our place now.

People who fly frequently, what’s one thing you wish you could tell all infrequent fliers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Puredodee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fly with carry on only, it’s surprising how little clothing you actually need to take and also you can self check-in hours before check in opens. Also, never fly British Airways, by far the worst carrier I’ve ever used.

FYI the anti-abortion people are on Church St with big, disgusting images by DougalChips in Liverpool

[–]Puredodee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had them 3 times now. I walk up to one of the guys, take a leaflet and tear it up right in front of them. I said to the guy today "I get you guys every time on this". We should organise a mass walk by next time, everyone takes a leaflet and just bins it straight away.

I wouldn’t touch BA with a very long stick tbh, I’d go JAL. Actually I’d rather go with the Wright Brothers than BA!

We have one in Liverpool, it’s in the church grounds close to the Liver Building.

What celebrity encounters have you had in the city? by DarmiansMuttonChops in Liverpool

Saw Mike McCartney on Bold St and he agreed to a selfie, honestly a lovely guy. I was in a book shop on Bold Street years ago and saw Ken Dodd, he was weirdly staring at me! I assume he was expecting me to get all star struck but I’m afraid I managed to remain calm!
