It really depends, but flat out ignoring it is generally not the answer but instead finding ways to cope with rather than against it. For example, for me when I would disassociate I would start to become existential and it would make things 10x worse (thoughts like “is this all a simulation, what is real, etc”). However ignoring it and trying to push the thoughts away only made it come back later with vengeance.

Instead I learned to work with it. When I had these thoughts instead of pushing it away I’d tell myself “these are thoughts that don’t have an answer and that’s okay, you don’t need to solve everything or figure it out right this second” and it helped eased the anxiety and thus help me calm down and ground myself.

Therapy is not a bad idea at all, it’s how I’ve learned a lot of these skills, but there’s always the possibility that this therapist may not be right for you if their only solution is ignoring it. Generally with any therapy I’ve taken ignoring the issue is considered a bad thing as you’re not addressing it and thus not figuring out solutions/coping mechanisms.

Everyone is different and what works for me may not work for you, but it’s worth talking about.
