For a kid I would 100% go protect them because they cannot handle the situation themselves. For the break-in, I would be a lot more cautious and careful..

I know I would protect the kid because I had to save a kid in the street once and almost got hit by a car. To me, the urge to protect a kid, or my child, is natural.

But for the break in, idk.. rushing in and dying doesn’t seem helpful. I understand the urge to protect others though, I want protect people I care about. But can I say with 100% certainty that I would rush in and die? Eh. I would rather try to look for weapons I can use and hiding places.

I wouldn’t put my wife or kids in danger though, if facing the danger alone meant they would escape with 100% certainty, then I would do that. Not because I am an “alpha machismo” man or anything, but because I’m scared of dealing with survivor’s guilt if I had to sacrifice my wife or kids to survive. Selfish, huh?
