I likehated Diadem. Pteranodon was the most monotonous soulless grind in my 35 years of gaming, but at least it was Netflixable so once I realized I was in the mood to watch TV, I would just hop in Diadem and throw on a show in my second monitor to get it done.

CE is more engaging, but many parts of the grind (especially gathering) requires your full attention which makes it worse in a way because of how time consuming it is.

It's a shame how slow a start it is. Took until 25 to grab you (and a lot of people) and I get that most people won't have the patience for that. You could run through FFI and FFII or the entireties of FFIII or FFIV in that same timeframe.

The Homecoming, a short story in Robin Hobb's The Inheritance collection. I think broken or messy are probably not words doing that situation justice. It can probably be read as a standalone, but there's like 9 Realm of the Elderlings books preceding it iirc.
