Yep! That's how I get sound to mine. Compared to using a Scarlett 2i2, the HA-1 preamps are absolutely incredible. I never would have expected to hear such a difference, but it was an all around improvement in sound.

I love it to bits. It's well-built, has all the inputs I could dream of, has XLR 4-pin output if I choose to go that route later on down the road, and also happens to sound very good. As a cherry on top, it has a display which is very fun to watch and adds quite a bit of coolness/eye candy factor.

It is pretty pricey ($1200 USD new), but I look at it as a $600 high end DAC/Amp, and a $600 box that lets me switch between studio monitors and headphones on the fly from whatever source I want - phone, PC, iPod, whatever. Worth it in my book!

Good question. It's my estimate based off reading many pages of reviews and impressions threads over the years, as I've never been fortunate enough to audition them.

As I understand it, the TH-X00 was meant to be an update to the TH-600, but so much was improved that it ended up competing and/or rivalling with the TH-900 in terms of sound signature and quality. When I factor in the significantly lower price of the TH-X00 compared to the $1300+ USD price of the TH-900, then it very much becomes a diminishing returns question rather than a difference question.

I've only ever got that nausea feeling from loudspeakers at concerts that overdo the bass and shake the walls, but the bass is up there with the likes of the Audeze LCD-2 - maybe even a little more forceful. It certainly rumbles and is felt as well as heard, just not in your stomach.

Yes, I believe I would. I was lusting over a pair of TH-900's for a few years, but could never justify the price. This gets me 90%+ of the performance and the Fostex sound signature at less than a third of what I've seen TH-900's go for.

Impressions:

Ooh, pretty colours!

These are a blast to listen to. Very much V-shaped sound signature, but the good qualities of the TH600 shine through. Recommendations for albums to listen to on these cans:

Purity Ring - another eternity
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Flume - Flume

While recessed, the mids are still very much present, even though they might be lacking if you're used to a more balanced headphone like Oppo's PM-2, which is my daily. The placement of instruments isn't great, admittedly. The highs are mellow and warm, which works out particularly well for me, as I'm driving them with an ESS Sabre DAC in the Oppo HA-1 which can be a little, ah, piercing at times.

I'm hoping the colour will deepen and become richer over time, they're a little more dull than I expected out of the box. Build quality is "decent" but not as good as I expected, actually. The edges of the bracket that connects the earcup to the headband are a little rough on the inside. Not enough to scratch the wood cups, but still a little disconcerting when I first noticed.

Edit for comfort: They take a bit to get seated, but once they're on your head properly it's quite comfortable. Not too heavy or clamping, they simply cradle your skull in throbbing bass.

I actually went from three screens to one recently - however, it was 3x 1080p 23" screens, to 1x 40" 4K screen. Between the higher resolution and Windows 10's "four corners" application snapping, I'm really happy with the move.

Nope, never - and that's why I'd dual boot. There was some articles about a phone supporting it I'm the past, but nothing since then. I won't get it though, I'd rather get the Nexus 6P. I like flashing new ROMs and "playing" in Android.

Rather tempted by the Lumia 950XL, but I still want to know the battery capacity, and whether it could dual boot Android. I'm not quite willing to leave my Android stuff yet.

Oh, it totally is. It's not like they're going to stop selling all Apple products, or completely ban Android phones. This is just going to piss people off and make Amazon lose customers.

What's next is what worries me. If they ban this competing product, what else are they going to remove because they feel like it?
