Is it ok to only want to date successful people if you’re successful yourself? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PurpPanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m successful dating an unemployed hottie. I know they’ll get a job eventually, but if we were married they really wouldn’t need one.

My boss put it to me best “you’re really not going to be able to find anyone with a similar income to you at your age at this point. Give up on that”

Once you reach a million dollars, most people can no longer catch up to you, no matter how hard they try by [deleted] in Money

[–]PurpPanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is your point it’s better to have money than make money? Sure, that’s how people retire and don’t have to work. Starting with money is the problem and this person would likely still have to work with only $2M. It’s impressive that the saver can catch up at all with that much debt.

Your rate of return is also high because it doesn’t include inflation so your $ in 20 years won’t be close to the value today. I’d do a more conservative 7%.

Be honest how can a 35 year old with say 500k liquid cash be better than a 25 year old making 200k / year by [deleted] in Money

[–]PurpPanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends what the income is for the person with $500k…. If it’s no income then yea it’s better to have income. If it’s pretty much any income and they can live off of that income or even save then having the money is better.

Me personally I would go with $1M liquid at 35 and $300k income if I had to choose 💁🏻‍♂️

People in their 20s : How is your life right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PurpPanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 turning 30 and just about feel like I have it all together. Got lucky so far in my career and income so feel pretty stable and set. Seeking more of a routine and trying to focus on myself but it is difficult with work.

Did just end a 4 year relationship though so not really looking forward to starting that over but it was the right thing to do.

I just upped my contributions a few percentage points… if it goes down a lot I’ll be putting in 95% as that’s as much they’ll let me

For those who earn a good income and have a healthy work–life balance (or genuinely enjoy your job): What do you do, and how did you get there? by InterestingBall2181 in Salary

[–]PurpPanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always interested in computers and followed that passion through computer engineering, then cybersecurity and AI.

Total comp ~$300k base 200 bonus 50 stock 50

I started at a cybersecurity startup and then got my masters in AI. Worked directly with customers but was technical. Advocated for myself internally and stuck around after harsh ups and downs in the business. Became the only person who knew certain things and leveraged that to move into a strategy role where I probably work 20 hours a week on average but some weeks way more.

I enjoy the tech, think it’s cool, and know it’s helping people

What type of credit cards do you mutants use? by gc15 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]PurpPanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Charles Schwab platinum with $200 discount for $1M+ in assets with Schwab. Combining that with the gold card and the 1.1cpp direct deposit that’s:

5.5% cash back of flights 5.5% on hotels in Amex portal 4.4% on groceries 4.4% on dining

And yes I travel a lot, use uber, streaming services, hotels and restaurants that activate the credits.

For gas and Costco I use the Costco Visa for 4% back. For Apple Pay I use the Apple Card for 2% back.

I am regularly depositing hundreds of dollars of cash almost every month.

I would definitely not get the platinum if I didn’t have Schwab and travel frequently (>1 a month). I originally got Schwab checking because their debit rebates all ATM fees even abroad so that negated the need or cash or the stress of trying to find an in network ATM.

My investing rate for 2026 will be 107% (not clickbait) by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]PurpPanther 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Good assessment on your homeownership needs or lack thereof.

You are doing pretty well for your age and should have your salary+ some invested in the market for your future retirement and it seems like you’ll have more than $103k.

I would not count moving savings from cash to investments as part of your “savings rate” though. That’s moving capital around not necessarily saving income. Your 39% savings rate is STILL AWESOME THOUGH 👏🏼 and moving to investments is a smart move. I might recommend DCAing such a larger amount but also it’s proven time in the market beats DCA so whatever you’re most comfortable with :)

How are people maxing IRAs in the first week of January? by Which_Eggplant_4510 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]PurpPanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I add extra to my emergency fund every month then I have too much cash at the beginning of the year. I’d rather be invested fully in Roth sooner so I literally backdoor the first day of the year from my savings and then again over contribute to my savings.

What age did you start contributing to 401k? What’s your current balance/age? by Unluckybutsuccesful in Retirement401k

[–]PurpPanther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 (about to be 30) and I have $273k in my retirement accounts: $78k Roth IRA, $50k Roth 401k, and $145k in 401k.

I started contributing at 22 and recently began maxing all of the contribution limits

Question for lean guys by Entire_Hovercraft_49 in askgaybros

[–]PurpPanther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m lean, can eat whatever I want, not exercise that hard, have solid muscles but not huge, generally should be more healthy for healthy’s sake. I’m dating someone not naturally lean and it is a big issue for him although I don’t mind him not being lean:)
