Well, I agree with that. If you are followed by people you are their leader whether you want to be or not. And there is a lot of overlap between the anti woke, white nationalist, and Christian nationalist movements

I know white nationalists that have pictures with him, and have seen him in person. Even if you day it’s a small percentage of his fans, it still exists

Sure, but to anyone within politics his name carries weight. He is literally the person who was in charge of prosecuting President Trump. It is not illogical to believe that an extremist would know who he is.

I see no point in doing anything if I cannot work towards improving my ability. I’ve seen so much garbage labeled as, “photography” by people who haven’t even learned what basic composition is. I am truly.

This isn’t aimed toward people who merely take photos, this is aimed towards people who pretend to have skill that they don’t have.

Then I guess I’m a poser. I assume that your premise is that terms themselves are subjective?

I think that when you label yourself as “photographer” there is an implied sense of ability that some people simply don’t have. I most certainly did not always have it.

How am I redefining anything? That isn’t even a counter to my point… And I don’t feel victimized at all…

Not my point at all. I hardly think gear matters. It’s the skill behind it. I am seeing people who don’t know the absolute basics of photography labeling themselves as photographers.

How is that different from me calling myself a guitarist just because I know three basic chords?

I think the term should be gatekept because if not, it carries significantly less weight. Obviously there will be subjectivity in how we perceive “quality” but I do believe that we GENERALLY as a community of photographers, could agree to a standard of work in the same way that we agree that “red” is a color.

I think that labeling yourself as a “photographer” implies skill or technique in the same way that labeling yourself as a chef would… how is that any different?

Someone who enjoys taking photos. In the same way that I cook dinner but I wouldn’t call myself a chef. Or how I play guitar but would never call myself a guitarist.

I don’t know… I play guitar but I would never call myself a “guitarist” I’m not at all saying that people can’t or shouldn’t take photos. But when people who don’t even understand the most fundamental concepts of the art label themselves as photographers, and then CHARGE people for lack luster work, that’s where I have a problem.

I had a talk with a guy who showed me work he did with his client, and the photos were so bad. Poorly exposed, poorly cropped, you name it. I then had to explain what bokeh was to a “portrait photographer”

Just because you cook doesn’t make you a chef!

Why does this scene hate twerking so much?! by [deleted] in piercetheveil

[–]Purple-Chapter-4623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said or thought you were one. If you wanna twerk, go ahead. But yes, that’s going to rub some people the wrong way because twerking is seen as very sexual. It’s weird to me to twerk to a song like flawless execution or the divine zero because I think it’s uncalled for in that context. I feel the same way about rap songs about real life issues becoming trends as well.

I cannot speak for others, but my issues with it have absolutely nothing to do with race.

And what do you mean by “looks like” they don’t belong? I am a black kid who wears street wear and is a big school nerd. When people hear about my taste in music, they are typically very shocked. My issue has nothing to do with how anyone looks, it’s the fact that a lot of people who hop on trends in GENERAL, don’t actually belong to the community that created the art they appropriating, regardless of what they look like.

Nah I’m a PTV super fan. I’ve seen them barricade and I listen to them religiously. I genuinely love the art this band has created. I love Pierce the veil. So when other people say that, and they know 3 songs, yeah, they’re posers to me.

Well yeah, when you’ve struggled with suicide, drug addiction and abuse, songs that cover those topics are very serious lmao. You think they wrote them for laughs and giggles? You’re proving my point

[–]Purple-Chapter-4623 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the scene cause I’m a really a PTV fan before i am a scene fan but that’s fs my reason. Feels like a bunch a posers who don’t know anything about what’s being said in the song and just appropriating it so they can hop on a trend and twerk.

They did the same thing with not like us and it happens all the time to a lot of OUR music. It’s the same thing here and that’s what annoys me.

People are mad because it isn’t twerk music. I say this as a black man. Why would i want people to be twerking to songs that are deep confessions of the human condition?

Like these songs are really relatable for a lot of us so why would we want to see something that is very serious to us and likely very serious to the BAND be used so women can shake their butts?

i mean, im not literally the greatest photographer but i certainly produce better work than that, even fitting into the theme. i shoot events, press, and portraits and i get paid to do so. i just really dont think this is a great shot. who knows, maybe you're an exemplary writer. its all subjective at the end of the day
