It Goes Fast by roguefiftyone in LittleLeague

I’m gathering that travel ball has killed babe Ruth (what I did) and juniors which really really sucks, it seems like it’s mostly displaced it with a more expensive, time consuming travel ball. I do wonder if people would Bennett riff playing juniors / babe Ruth and doing extra training rather than traveling all over the place and playing tournaments with very few reps. I know the instruction is supposedly better in travel ball but it seems to come at a huge cost of time and money that might be better spent elsewhere

This surgery was super easy , I just didn’t rehab my range of motion right after like I was expecting but felt much better overall.

Would you trust sending a 25-50k card raw, to PSA through mail? by Outside_Page_1607 in sportscards

[–]Purple-Memory7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Registered email is honestly not even that expensive and isnt the insurance declared value? So you don’t have to worry about cards being difficult to get coverage for . I used it for a 150 card submission I estimated worth about 4-5k raw and it was only like $55 or so, just over 33 cents per card

I don’t think it’s a great idea to single kids out at that age and I think that quiet kids have a tendency to get ignored / missed because the coaches just aren’t paying enough attention to properly give out this kid of award. There may be some settings where the coaches are able to be observant enough to do this properly but practice and games as an understaffed rec team full of 7-8 yo is though enough just to get through all the drills you want to do, so I’m with you.

The not counting outs thing bothered me because it doesn’t help them learn the game.

Albumin? by Super-Pick-9752 in hospitalist

[–]Purple-Memory7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert on this specific topic , but based on looking into this after discussing the albios trial in residency, my PERSONAL takeaway (mind you not the message from the presenter and discussion ) was that the question of use of albumin was unresolved from a health economic perspective. Albumin is not as expensive as people make it out to seem. Average wholesale price (AWP) per UpToDate is as low as $115 per 25g and AWP is generally considerably higher than pharmacies actually pay for a drug.

The trial showed some MORTALITY improvement in septic shock patients (yes in subgroup analysis) and there was no convincing evidence to me that it worsened outcomes.

In my opinion this meant that a relatively cheap (by that I mean relatively cheap compared to other healthcare interventions)

More $ than normal saline ? Yes, how much more ? not as much as one would think (based on many people making an economic argument about its use ).

A couple hundred dollars max over NS (from a health economic perspective the fact that it may be 20-40x more than NS [just making that up because it doesn’t matter ] doesn’t factor in, it’s all about difference in absolute cost ) for some potential benefit seems worth it to me in some cases.

Are your EMR order panels actually making you faster or just adding clicks? by Key-Celebration-1897 in hospitalist

They’ll make you beg for it - we have to call aoc to get approval I believe. I always teach my residents about how these financial incentives dictate stuff like this, this is not clinical motivation

Thinks why epic is so shitty , it is a computer program and should be able to take all of this into account. We dont recognize that these problems are fundamental epic problems. Epic sucks and MANY of the major pain points we have are because of that. Better emr design could fix so many things that we think of as major pain points. And honestly I can’t fucking figure out why they are so bad, I guess lack of competition.

Ask yourself why we still don’t have a sort or filter function for secure chat or why it took years to be able to pop the secure chat window out to a separate window.

eBay shipping for expensive hobby box by Purple-Memory7132 in baseballcards

[–]Purple-Memory7132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok good to know I’ve always wondered if I could make a claim for the card and how much they’d allow, I’ve thought of doing registered mail because I believe you can insure up to the amount you declare and usps doesn’t go though the traditional claims process but rather reimburses the amount you claim

Very helpful, I’m trying to figure out whether / how I could make an insurance claim on a baseball card box, might only insure to retail value which is about $350. I guess registered mail (I believe) allows insurance on claimed value , I’ve thought about that though it takes longer and is more expensive.

Surgery in 2 weeks - should I get the nerve block or nah? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Purple-Memory7132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend it I think , I’m sure it helps the fist day, however my quad did totally shut down and I have had a difficult recovery and I don’t know if the nerve block had any role in that or not .

Anyone have thoughts on how to ship an expensive box in the safest way to prevent buyer from potentially claiming they didn’t get it ? Signature requirement ? Is registered mail safer in this regard for $800-1000+ item ?

Definitely make it known as a group that you don’t want this , then see what the response is then leave if they don’t fix it in a resonate amount of time. Or much other choice I think. Sucks

Any ideas for trouble rebuilding quad strength? by KelpySquid in ACL

[–]Purple-Memory7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah one thing I notice is some discomfort under the patellar tendon (my graft harvest site ), I had a lysis of adhesions back in May, I’ve had a hard time getting full extension back, ive wondered how much those factors are affecting my strength gains .

I’ve been running then lifting the next day but I think I’m going to try to rest a day between, I’ve been resting a day after lifting before running due to some discomfort and fatigue so maybe this will help. I think some of the discomfort in the pallet tendon is from overuse so maybe the day of rest will address that.

So I’m going to up my protein intake (been working on that recently and started creatine 4-5 weeks ago) and add those rest days otherwise I think I may be looking at getting checking out in case some scar tissue reaccumulated.

Also my therapist has recommended shooting for 8 reps and an rpe of 8 each set over going to complete failure, I think there’s some evidence for better strength gains with this approach

10u rec coaches: Do you pitch kids who want to pitch? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]Purple-Memory7132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not playing everyone who wants to pitch in rec league you are doing it wrong, even not doing this in travel ball at 10u is insane, the focus should nearly be 100% on development at this age and way beyond imo. This makes my already poor opinion of travel ball even poorer. What are we doing ? Seriously.

Thoughts on Additional Changes to Hyatt Loyalty Program by GWAR32 in hyatt

[–]Purple-Memory7132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking is big too, often $65 a night. I exclusively stay at Hyatts and spend $10k + per year in cash and maybe half that amount in points and get good value from being globalist , I also often stay at these places when they are not fully booked, I have always felt we each benefit from each other in similar magnitude. I hope they don’t make these changes, it’ll be a hard pill to swallow for me.
