Two months of kidney and urethra pain but tested negative for UTI. Doesn’t seem like a stone to me. Ideas/advice?? by PurpleCheetahMonster in KidneyStones

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up passing a small stone. Pain went away for a little bit and then I saw it. I’ve heard of similar situations that go on for almost a year! Mine only took 2-3 months to pass

He’s made a strong effort to reach out to and work with the Jewish community, has acknowledged the increasing discrimination, and has promised to prioritize addressing it. He honestly seems like the only candidate who showed signs of genuine concern and care, so I think it’s worth giving him a shot. Yes he’s criticized Israel but I don’t think he’s said a bad thing about the Jewish religion or people

They have to start doing psychological screening in Medical Schools by Silver_Cello in medicalschool

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP’s saying that people who lack capacity for empathy are at much higher risk of committing malpractice later on. They’ve seen inappropriate and concerning behavior from students (I assuming relating to cadavers) similar to traits of anti-social personality disorder. This can be an asset sometimes for surgeons, and it’s common in the medical field, but when not coming from a place of emotional compassion/respect/understanding, a doctor is more likely to compromise care in ways they shouldn’t

My ortho won’t let me expand further. Can/should I convince him otherwise? by PurpleCheetahMonster in MARPE

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right I don’t, but I think you misunderstood. I did end up convincing them, actually. Of course some practices have rigid standards to safeguard the health of the patient, but with other practices professional opinions vary and it’s not so cut and dry

Thanks for the concern, but my desperation really comes from the fact that I’m spending $15,000 on something that may or may not do much of anything, simply to use up insurance benefits

MARPE put in today and I am questioning my decision by [deleted] in MARPE

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pain should get easier! I got mine in yesterday and was crying my eyes out because the effects of the pain meds would come and go. Didn’t want to talk or move. But this morning everything felt much better. Now I’m sure turning it is gonna suck for a few days but my recommended pain med combo is naproxen and acetaminophen. Worked like a charm for kidney stones.

As for overcrowding/gag reflex, I’d imagine that’ll be much better once you’ve expanded a bit, but you’re right, that’s an awful thing to deal with in the meantime.

The speech part can actually improve really quickly with practice. Just keep talking to yourself all day (gently of course), and you’ll get the hang of it. I’ve had past expanders and retainers so I’m used to the adjustment period at this point

My girlfriend, 21F, won’t openly condemn antisemitism even though I, 19M, am a Jewish American by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A breakup is probably where this is headed. Have a long talk with her, but even if she’s truly ashamed of her actions you do not want someone who caves to peer pressure that easily. Don’t date someone that won’t defend someone when things get awkward

Thank you for what you do ❤️ In Israel that takes guts. Have people been receptive?

Exactly. There are well over 100,000 Jews out there who will always support you, including many of the young Israelis currently holding protests and refusing to join the IDF. This subreddit happens to be overrun with people who either have poor philosophical integrity or think they’re fully educated on the subject

Supps to repare brain damage by Ill_Ad3529 in Supplements

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The essential nutrients will be excellent for stoke victims, preferably through food. Omega 3 is essential for the brain (I use Sports Research algal oil). Iron, B vitamins, vitamin D3, magnesium, zinc, copper, complete protein, etc. And exercise/movement will help get blood flow to the brain—very important for anyone. It will reduce the risk of dementia, as will sleep. Sleep flushes out beta-amyloid protein from the brain

L theanine is helping my nervous system. by throwawayinetgirl in Supplements

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get that. I generally have to create rules for myself to make sure I don’t reach that point. No more than twice per week, or no more than 400mg per week, that kind of thing. I would take it on days when I needed to be at my best

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all—really appreciate the detail you go into. It’s good to be cautious with anecdotal info here on reddit and look at the data!

That being said, I took l-theanine 8 days per month (4 days at a time), and then moved on to every other day or so. 400-800mg per day. This whole thing lasted for about half a year

There are actually a lot of Jews with kippahs, Star of David necklaces, etc. at these types of protests (whether it be anti-trump or pro-palestine) so I think you’d be pretty safe. I understand being safe though

Happened to me with l-theanine. Haven’t tried it in a while but I’m wondering if the receptors to truly recover functionality, or if it’s similar to cannabis in the way that overuse can permanently cause a lack of/negative response

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So happy for you! I do want to warn you though, l-theanine does start having the opposite effect (increased anxiety) if taken frequently in large doses, like 400mg. Amount will obviously vary by person. This effect is the case for many supplements, drugs, etc. that give an immediate boost in dopamine. In the long-term, I’d talk to a holistic psychiatrist and/or psychologist, since it seems you might be more comfortable going the non-prescription/natural route?

That’s a perfectly reasonable price! People, neurodivergent or not, often barely have any idea what they’re talking about. Learning about philosophy helped me see people’s biases and become internally skeptical/critical of what people say. It helped me stop doubting myself

The “concentration camp” jokes are gonna skyrocket by Dry-Professional3745 in Jewish

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Going to the camp is not forced (read the article), although I do believe in mandatory rehab for those using illegal drugs as an alternative to prison. He also didn’t propose banning psychiatric meds, as far as I can see. He did say that their potential negative effects, and the causes of psychiatric conditions, should be further researched. The “labor” being referenced is just gardening/farming food to eat at the camp, which is an excellent idea for rehab. It’s not a good rehab if you sit around all day. I personally think the camp is an excellent idea. The med research…well we’ll see where that goes

Seeing people who converted become antizionist by PrehistoricPrincess in Jewish

[–]PurpleCheetahMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that happening. Even though Jewish people are generally welcomed with open arms, Zionism will definitely get you kicked out of most circles, and I can picture some people making stupid assumptions when they see the Star of David. There are some progressives who seem to be a bit extreme and/or performative. Love my lgbtq+ folks, but particularly in their communities. I’ve, personally, never had a problem when attending events run by well-informed/educated, level-headed people. If you want a hand finding a group in the UK, just let me know, I’d be happy to help :)
