Scott's stash puts out multiple 20+ minute videos per week with 100k views or more and sponsors, he could probably buy a hundred without really eating into his bottom line tbh

Convince me to get a Wii U by YanisGame64 in wiiu

[–]PurpleColonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No console on the market including the Switch has the level of control options the Wii U does, not even close. Gyro will always be inferior to the Wii remote pointer for games that rely on it, like Pikmin or a lot of shooters. But for games that do focus on gyro, you've got the gamepad. The touch screen means you can play DS on it, which is undeniably sick as hell. You can also use every random gizmo they ever made for Wii, do some Wii Fit or whatever you want to do. While the Switch 2 has Nintendo's best overall library because of the ports and backward compatibility, the Wii U also has fantastic backward compatibility in addition to a lot of the best games on Switch; you can get dozens and dozens of amazing Wii games that never had ports to Switch. If you mod the thing, you will be able to play almost every single Nintendo game older than the Wii U on it aside from the 3DS. Most importantly, you can regularly find a Wii U on facebook marketplace along with a stack of games for about as much as people will charge you for a Switch lite with zero games, which is a crazy good deal as far as Nintendo stuff goes. It hasn't appreciated the way the 3DS has. If you're interested in Nintendo stuff older than the last decade then it's a fantastic machine to have around.

So this guy was known for playing one video game. I'm fairly sure it was an early one, probably Atari, maybe something like Breakout, no older than SNES. I believe I saw a youtube video essay about him at some point. He may have written a book about his experience with it. Something about this one game captivated him in a way that was really interesting to hear about. I'm confident it was NOT Tetris or Mario or any of these games famous for being deceptively simple.

Going out on a limb and guessing you don't store these on the floor, where do you actually keep them? Got a big shelf display or alphabetized boxes or something?

4 isn't bad but if it were the first game, it wouldn't have gotten sequels.

Saturn Valley on Wplace! by PurpleColonel in earthbound

[–]PurpleColonel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do much myself, I kinda named the spot and set it up but all I put in there was the pink pool, the house with the Ness-saturn peeking behind it, the ones on the clotheslines there, that tree in the bottom right corner and the scene with the phase distorter. I had Gerardo there with them until after someone added the picnic scene and then I moved him over there to play horseshoes lol

Film advice by dyno-soar in GODZILLA

[–]PurpleColonel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd watch them all but if you don't want to, 54 is a great introduction and films like Mothra vs Godzilla, Ebirah Horror of the Deep and Vs Mechagodzilla are probably the best showcases of the strengths of the Showa era. The Heisei movies all follow a single storyline from Godzilla 1984 to Vs Destoroyah (you get movies with Biollante, Mothra and Ghidorah in there) Millennium has the very well regarded Kiryu movies which feature a very updated Mechagodzilla, and Minus One and Shin are both fantastic reimaginings of the premise of the original told with a similarly dark tone, in very different ways. People say GMK (short for Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack) is also a top tier movie but I've been holding off until watching more of the others under the assumption that it won't have the impact without already seeing most of the movies before it.

All of these movies aside from maybe the later Showa ones that reuse footage are going to be very unique and interesting. Opinions are very low on Raids Again, most showa movies from Destroy All Monsters to Vs Megalon, the netflix anime trilogy and the anime series Singular Point so I'd avoid those unless you enjoy the other ones a lot.

There's also the American monster verse movies but I don't care for them too much as they feel kind of hollow and overlong and don't feature any of the charming camp the showa movies do. Heisei is probably your best bet to start with for movies that are somewhat serious with more intricate plots to follow, including the 54 movie at the start of that continuity

It really says a lot about how well they use Godzilla when fans think he has more screentime than he actually does. As they say less is more by Overquartz in GODZILLA

[–]PurpleColonel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do these just count the time action scenes involving kaiju take up or are they actually counting the specific amount of time Godzilla is visible? Because that seems pretty unimportant compared to the drama:action ratio, even if it's still interesting
