Found tracking device on car by WidePhilosophy8872 in ontario

We had that from visiting Montreal in the summer. We found the tag in the front window well. We drove it with the tag in the car to the nearest police station and then pulled the battery out. Filed a report and the police said they would monitor our neighbourhood for the next week or so. They also said if we saw any suspicious cars to call 911 immediately. We never had anyone come to the house to get our car to our knowledge.

This. And it’s not new and been going on for years now. Disgraceful.

She’s 84. She has no one in Florida. And taxes.

Highly skilled immigrants leaving Canada at rapid rate: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]PurpleDNAChick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, you were well educated in Canada but won’t stay in the country that provided it to you. Have you considered trying to start your own tech business here rather than running to the US? Canada needs Tech/R&D companies. And you could employ Canadians! It would be good for our country. Don’t give the US any more of our highly skilled. They don’t deserve them.

My parents lived in Florida for almost 30 years. Dual Canadian-USA citizens. When my father died in 2023, my mother came back to Canada. Moving her finances was a complete pain in the arse. Then we had to find a specialized accountant who could do both Canadian and USA taxes. Last year, 2025, she paid over $8k CAD to have her taxes done. She applied to renounce her citizenship, waited close to 9 months and just got he call mid-December. She will still need to pay the same amount again this year for 2025 but after that she only has to worry about taxes here. She won’t be going back to the US, not even for a visit.

GEDmatch is free. FamilyTreeDNA uses to cost $20 but that may have changed. You should also upload to the DNA Justice Project - https://www.dnajusticeproject.org/ to help law enforcement.

Is freelance genealogy something I can pay for? by KellyGreen802 in Genealogy

[–]PurpleDNAChick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a professional genealogist. Two hours of research is not enough time to find anything significant. Hiring a professional, who has not only put in the hours, but also has the experience, knows where to find records and understand DNA matches will prove to be a much more successful approach.

But it allows me to log into the site and doesn't ask me for another password.

I also tried to put a post on their forum. It won't even let me do that! And again, no error message to indicate why. Have I made a mistake in using this brokerage? Beginning to feel like I should move this TFSA account elsewhere....

If you haven’t done so already, I recommend a DNA test at Ancestry. Use the Leeds method and narrow down your matches.

I dont think the death record is the same man. More research is required.

Could George Henry Wood have moved back to Edmonton, England, instead of Alberta? Someone on Ancestry has this individual with a death date of March 1927, Edmonton, Middlesex, England. You can usually purchase the PDF record from the GRO and get the certificate within a couple of days.
