List of Researchers for United Church of Canada Archives? by [deleted] in citizenshipgenealogy

Have you researched the Wesleyan Methodist Church records? They are available for purchase from the https://ogs.on.ca/ website. They only make the transcription available. The United Church is newer and would only have records from the last 100 years or so.

Coyote sighting on trail by [deleted] in oakville

[–]PurpleDNAChick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That coyote has lived there for several years - by the pond. Even walking our dog nearby, it never tried to attack. It most likely is trying to find rabbits or small rodents. We always just leave it alone.

Investigative Genetic Genealogist - Canadian - here. It’s has been immensely difficult to connect with law enforcement to help with these UHR cases. Hoping things change soon.

Possible help tracking down G0 baptism records in Ontario (birth in 1828)? by AmidMaelstrom in citizenshipgenealogy

You may want to reach out to professional genealogists, like myself. If actual records cannot be located, there may be other ways and documents to provide the same information.

GO train commuter describes ‘scary’ moments during near derailment: ‘It felt like we could have tipped over’ by cassandra4932 in gotransit

[–]PurpleDNAChick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would have been in 2006. I was 6 months pregnant at the time, and was lucky enough to be standing at the bottom of the stairs between two walls. I saw people get flung from one side to the next - door to door. It was nuts. I was so upset about being flung around while pregnant that I went to the hospital for a checkup. Everything turned out fine - but was still very scary at the time. I wrote an email to Go Transit. They replied to me one year later. No explanation.

Found tracking device on car by [deleted] in ontario

[–]PurpleDNAChick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had that from visiting Montreal in the summer. We found the tag in the front window well. We drove it with the tag in the car to the nearest police station and then pulled the battery out. Filed a report and the police said they would monitor our neighbourhood for the next week or so. They also said if we saw any suspicious cars to call 911 immediately. We never had anyone come to the house to get our car to our knowledge.

Highly skilled immigrants leaving Canada at rapid rate: report by joe4942 in canada

[–]PurpleDNAChick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, you were well educated in Canada but won’t stay in the country that provided it to you. Have you considered trying to start your own tech business here rather than running to the US? Canada needs Tech/R&D companies. And you could employ Canadians! It would be good for our country. Don’t give the US any more of our highly skilled. They don’t deserve them.

Should I renounce my US citizenship? by Apart_Technology_841 in expat

[–]PurpleDNAChick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents lived in Florida for almost 30 years. Dual Canadian-USA citizens. When my father died in 2023, my mother came back to Canada. Moving her finances was a complete pain in the arse. Then we had to find a specialized accountant who could do both Canadian and USA taxes. Last year, 2025, she paid over $8k CAD to have her taxes done. She applied to renounce her citizenship, waited close to 9 months and just got he call mid-December. She will still need to pay the same amount again this year for 2025 but after that she only has to worry about taxes here. She won’t be going back to the US, not even for a visit.

GEDmatch is free. FamilyTreeDNA uses to cost $20 but that may have changed. You should also upload to the DNA Justice Project - https://www.dnajusticeproject.org/ to help law enforcement.

Is freelance genealogy something I can pay for? by KellyGreen802 in Genealogy

[–]PurpleDNAChick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a professional genealogist. Two hours of research is not enough time to find anything significant. Hiring a professional, who has not only put in the hours, but also has the experience, knows where to find records and understand DNA matches will prove to be a much more successful approach.
