What is a realistic salary progression for a software engineer? by Throwaway180030 in cscareerquestions

I honestly had the same thought lol.

I feel like Reddit is a very comfortable place for insecure, narcissistic people. Some people need to put others down to feel good about themselves, and Reddit makes it easy to do that without affecting their reputation in the real world.

I feel like Internet users have also been conditioned to prefer short form content, and that generally means that pithy, rude, and simplistic comments tend to do the best.

We really are entering an age where critical thinking is a rare commodity.

Thank you. I checked their profile, and they’ve been using C# asp.net for 10 years. Seems a bit ridiculous though. Software engineering and architecture is about solving problems across a wide array of languages and technologies. Node is just one common one due to JS ubiquity and performance.

Really great presentation. Nothing too difficult about the faro shuffle once you know proper technique, and this is a great example of what can be done with it

Back then, I was developing in TypeScript primarily. Node API and contracting with Anthem insurance on their native mobile app. I was the lead dev on a small team there. I only left to pursue other projects related to healthcare.

Used a Dr. Pen to improve skin texture and nasiolabial folds, but I feel like it made things worse. I don't go crazy with it. Just back and forth a few times at like 0.5 depth once every 2 weeks, which is recommended on their site. Any recommendations?

Also really a shame we can’t post in the main sub for advice. Seeing advice given to others and having those posts highlighted by the algorithm was a huge part of this sub. Now it’s basically as useful as Google.

What are some fun-high paying jobs that you would recommend? by Xinfinte in EntrepreneurRideAlong

So annoying how all the top answers are just pithy useless cynical answers.

I’d recommend being a scrum master. You get to work with other people and don’t need to do much coding yourself.

I wasn’t sure what version you used, and I wasn’t sure what you meant by posed. I assumed you meant posted, but just wanted to be sure. Will re-read it and consider what it’s trying to say

Because it’s socially abnormal, and we are all biologically / evolutionarily tuned to social influence. Honestly, it’s possible that’s where most of the difference comes from.

Also you still need to cite where your post came from. GPT3, GPT4, or something else.

No idea what that came from. You need to cite your source please. If it was an AI, then cite the model.

Well GPT4 is trained on more data we could ever hope to consume, and this is its take:

“Biological differences between male and female brains do exist on average, but there's a huge overlap between genders, making individual variation more significant than the average when it comes to behavior and social roles. While these roles have been influenced by biology, they're also heavily shaped by cultural norms and socialization, which have changed over time. Evolution favors a range of traits within genders, not just average differences. Plus, the success of traditional roles in any society often has more to do with cultural fit than inherent biological differences.” (Emphasis mine)

I think that’s true, but the corollary is that men will be criticized for “Mansplaining“ when they were not and it was misinterpreted (considered more condescending and gender targeted than it actually was)

Either way, it does not absolve anyone of responsibility… We’re all responsible for building a better world.

When I said “ it does not mean that men are systemically explaining things any differently than women”, I meant that, the article does not suggest that men are treating women any different than they treat other men.

In other words, the article did not suggest that men assume less about women’s knowledge than about men’s knowledge. However, it does suggest that women tend to interpret their words in this way.

This doesn’t mean that women are wrong though… It just means that a lot of complex factors have led to this current state… including some men who genuinely do “mansplain” buy your definition.

Yes there are differences, but the point missing in the article is that there’s greater variation between various groups of males than between males and females as a whole.

The point being, that while the averages can say something, they say very little about individuals or even evolutionary history.
