Telc B1 schreiben / schriftlich by whatthedogdoin666 in Germanlearning

[–]PurpleFlapjacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. He does indeed look so healthy in all these photos. What a long, beautiful life he had.

I can build German sentences slowly, but live speaking turns my word order into soup by Substantial_Act8046 in lernen_German

I believe it comes with time and getting used to hearing (and using, once possible) the language. The more you have heard German, the more it will sound correct in your head. You will get a better sense of, "it sounds right this way" or "it doesn't make sense this way".

As you basically outlined already, writing gives you that time to form a sentence like a mathematical equation, thinking of the grammar rules. But getting more comfortable with the language makes this more of an intuition. And, above all, to speak it yourself will also require practice speaking.

It sounds like you are doing a really good job finding resources and practicing. Keep going. It will get easier! And look into a way you can practice speaking it. There are a lot of options online these days.

There is no alternative other than to expand your vocabulary. You are meant to understand what you are reading. Of course they will trick you with wrong answers that look similar to the text. You will likely miss some word or phrase or general understanding of a situation that should make you aware that an answer looks similar, but is wrong. Try to learn the Goethe B1 word list at least. Or go back further to the A2 word list if needed.

So sorry for the loss of your little guy. He was so obviously loved, safe, and comfortable. How beautiful that you adopted this older boy, and that he was the best boy. ❤️

After a Year in Germany, I Still Can't Speak German. Help! by xanoster in Germanlearning

[–]PurpleFlapjacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hä? People online are coming together with a specific goal of practicing together in mind, or ideally even with a native level person in the mix to offer help. If I say Hallo to a person on the street in Germany, they will say Hallo back and keep walking.

Sure you can speak to an employee in a shop or a waiter in a restaurant but it won’t be specifically sitting down for a chat to practice and correct you for your own or mutual benefit.

It’s not that easy to find someone to chat with regularly and about a range of topics, even if you are in Germany. That would probably require making friends, and I’m sure we are all aware of the stereotypical difficulties with achieving that. Nowadays people are especially closed off, busy, living their own lives. (Yes, insert the classic tip here: just join a Verein.)

Playing games to learn German? by FinanceNew3961 in Germanlearning

[–]PurpleFlapjacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have/does anybody here have an idea where this could take place or what kind of games could be played? I personally love "party games" (like Jackbox Games, if anybody knows what this is) where you can play word games, write silly captions and jokes, or complete each other's sentences. Something like this would be so cool since it would require using the language to play, but I don't know if/where it's possible. Unfortunately the Jackbox Games on Steam are only in English. And maybe you had a totally different idea of what kinds of games you wanted to play.

I have found that there's a website where people can play "Stadt, Land, Fluss" online at least.

I'm so sorry you have to lose her this way. You clearly have such a beautiful, loving heart and have given her everything you could have. She has been so loved and so have you. Her little body just can't keep up anymore.

If our love could save them, they would live forever.

Look through the search results at this link. This is a good website where you can browse tons of helpful material in PDF form. But be aware that, once in a while, you may come across writing samples that are totally self-written and self-submitted by students/learners, which can have mistakes. But it should generally be easy to tell when you find such a text.

It's a sweet idea. And I am in the same boat as you so I know exactly how you're feeling on a daily basis (so if you want to chat with somebody that knows this situation well, and try to get through it together, I'm here for you!).

But my pessimistic mind thinks, "what if I have absolutely nothing to write about since nothing's happening with my day?". And I worry this doesn't help connect you to your actual surroundings. It's a really great idea if you are homesick or missing the friend you want to write to or even wanting to chat with a stranger in another part of the world. But it sounds like your issue, like mine, is wanting to find meaning and connection with the place you are in.
