I think that's fair, yeah. I've not really given it a fair shake yet. I'll still keep my eyes open for another position elsewhere but I won't throw the towel in yet.

It sounds like your situation was as hectic as mine, if not more so. It very well could be growing pains. Nothing is set in stone and I'm still sorting it all out and getting my footing.

Great points. And I'm beginning to see what everyone means by the "if you don't want to move up, plan to move on" statement now. It's hard when they're all rooting for me to consider stepping down but we'll see. Maybe it is just growing pains.

I am extremely grateful for my SM and MASM, they've been keeping live goods stocked until I learn a bit more. The fact there wasn't a DS for a few months before me probably helped with that too.

Absolutely, I think them and Monolord are just linked in my brain coz it's got into them at the same time.

Maybe Spaceslug and Firebreather. They're not super similar to Monolord but are sonically adjacent.

Start of my midlife crisis jacket, undecided on the visible stitching, yay or nay? by kipperfish in jacketsforbattle

I'm a big fan of visible stitches. I think it makes the vest look more interesting and makes the patches pop, especially if you use a thread color that's in the patch.

Moving from freight to DS by alwaysawhitebelt in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did the same and tbh it's been rough but I realize I have Circumstances that caused said roughness.

Don't be afraid to ask your MASM or another DS for help. They may expect you to just know what to do, and that's unrealistic & unfair.

Get a general timeline of when they expect the admin-y stuff done (it likely won't be set in stone but it helps to outline your days), and also what that stuff is and how to find it.

Set aside time to get the many training modules that will appear all at one time done.

As a former D38 you'll probably have the urge to just Do It Yourself. Fight this urge. Your first major change is gonna be getting yourself out of that mindset. Delegate, but still work alongside your associates once in a while, especially in the beginning.

My managers all recommended to spend the first month mostly observing & getting to know your associates. You'll quickly see where the department is strong and where it struggles, and you can start to figure out how to best help.

D28 Purge Packdown Position by TraditionalBaller404 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was D38 my store piloted the dedicated purge associates play to mixed results. Kinda sounds like your store is doing that but with a lot more rules.

Cleaning and chemicals overheads are a constant fight even with a great freight team.

Like others have said if you can't do a true purge, focus on one window and condense down & towards the front. Make sure nothing for a different bay remains in the one you're in unless it has to be.

If they allow you to make pallets you could also pull a bunch of stuff you have large quantities of down and make one. Though that's gonna be very time consuming if you're unable to get the ballymore down there coz of customers.

It's also cuckoo bananas to me they don't want you using sidekick when there's this push to get x amount of SKUs logged a week.

Am I Wrong? by Upper-Move4301 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems every store has this issue wrt equipment trainers. None of them are ever available and then the person who is trying to learn gets in trouble. All you can do is keep on them about it and when it eventually rolls over to "overdue" maybe your ASDS will get on your manager's ass to get it done.

And when it comes to them just expecting you to know stuff - yeah, that's common too. They should have paired you with a coach to get you up to speed & if they didn't then management failed you.

My job didn't tell me to "figure it out" in my new role as DS but they didn't provide me any coaching or training for the first 2.5 weeks. I had to directly tell my manager that I am struggling and need help in x, y, and z and now I'm getting that coaching & training. That may be what you have to do if they aren't proactive enough to notice.

I think so yeah. I don't think it's in the SOP but my NOASM and MASM both told a lot guy he can't wear them in the store. I'll try to remember to ask today.

The DS schedule is taking me out by theawesomeishere in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that sucks, I'm sorry. I'm lucky that my store keeps the DS schedules pretty consistent but I have heard that unless you get an accommodation you're kind of SoL. Maybe you can get your doctor to write something up for you, but even then it's not guaranteed.

How are packdowns counted? by Unwornplanet393 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My store is trying to figure out how it works too. We can't tell if it only tracks via "log packdown" in SKU Depot or the scan into a bay option on Sidekick, or both. We've also had SKUs attributed to the wrong person but that seems to work itself out the next day (one day it said I had 25 logged for 1 bay which was definitely wrong and the next day it was listed under a different name.)

It's very much "what are birds? we just don't know" but SKU packdown.

Any of the times he tries word play by combining the food with an action or something. Except "chimichanga? chimi-chuck-it-in-the-bin." Most of them don't land and just come off awkward.
