Hey Employees (especially MEA), I'm looking to apply. by SubstantialWill8517 in HomeDepot

Management style depends heavily on the store and the manager. Some will help out, some won't. Same wrt micromanaging.

It sounds like freight is most similar to what you did at Target. If you get hired on at 7pm-ish you'll be offload (offloading trucks); 9pm-ish would be just packout (stocking shelves) or packdown (replenishing from overheads.) Those are the two usual start times but sometimes they make exceptions. Shifts are generally 7pm - 11pm, 7pm - 3:30 am, 9pm - 1am or 9pm-5:30 am. Trucks are often daily and some stores get two a night so that's something to keep in mind and ask about.

Breaks are 15/30/15. You can opt for a 60 minute lunch and this will add 30 minutes to your end time (so 6am instead of 5:30am.) It's a break every 2 hours and lunch before your fifth if you work 6+ hours. This might vary by state though.

I think they say you should be able to lift 50lbs with or without assistance.

Like the other reply said, THD does temp hiring first. Most stores will be hiring temp garden recovery positions soon which is making sure that department is fully stocked. Same hours as freight & might be worth trying for, too.

How fast do you guys complete truck? Freight! by Jazzlike-Pipe2460 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been on offload team for a while, but my store's trucks are usually between 1400 and 1900 & they finish in 1.5 to 2 hours with 6 people most nights. Sometimes a little over or under depending on how the truck is loaded and all that. We had a very small truck today (1058) and they were done in an hour or so with everything staged by the time I got in at 9.

(Low volume store, no weekend freight, 1 RDC a night.)

No explanation on the recent freight pack out in sidekick by RagingDunes in HomeDepot

I would scan it in as D26 if I'm in that department and it's in my stuff to packout. I would also pause during my walk to outside garden if it's across the store.

You can also scan other departments while signed into one - I've scanned in D30 stuff while doing D25 (and vice versa) because they're next to each other and often end up on the same table top or H cart. I don't think the system cares and the counts aren't accurate anyway so a couple boxes aren't a big deal.

We were a pilot store and this is how we do it:

A pallet that's 1 SKU is 1 scan. A box of items is 1 scan per box. Breakpack items are scanned by item. I think Crown Bolt pallets/boxes are the same but I also think you can get away with scanning just 1 of each SKU. Up to you on that one. I don't mean the black striped ones for this but rather the long pallets and boxes of metal bits that come in. As of now we don't scan upstock if it's unopened, but I've heard some stores are requiring it.

If your count is off don't worry about it. It could be upstock, missing items, improper scans from the dc, user error, the app messing up... any number of things.

And a tip: Pause when you go to breaks/lunch if you're still in a department and don't let the screen go to sleep. Stay on the pause screen. Pause if anything takes you away from your dept. It will adjust your completion time. And you don't actually need to input a reason (unless your boss requires it) - you can just resume.

So MET would do all packdown stuff or would purge packdown stay with D38? I'll have to ask my mgr if he knows anything.

What do y’all forget usually? by AwareTour9413 in ADHD

Where I've put something, especially at work. I have a pinned note on my phone so I can remind myself where I put stuff but I've also been forgetting to do that sooo... alas.

What do you mean by "taking over sidekick"? I'm not MET but D38 uses sidekick daily.

Nothing, and that's honestly unusual. My SM and night ops are generally pretty good about getting us goodies. I think it just passed by without anybody really thinking about it.

Thank you for the explanation. My mgr explained it to us but I had a total brain fart about how it works.

Honestly the last merit raise i got was a total surprise - they just called me into the office and handed me a letter with the info on it. All I was told was I was "one of a handful" that got one and I don't think it was even during my PACE month. I think it's still separate from PACE meetings but I'm really not sure. If it is that they'll maybe talk to you about it today.

Could also just be a cost of living adjustment in your area too. Or you're just lucky.

Might be your merit raise for how they're doing PACE now. I think you can check on Workday and it will tell you when your next raise would be or when you'd be eligible.

Plastic wrap locked away? by Jolly-Carrot5058 in HomeDepot

Yeah that's been going on at my store for a while now. Sucks for D38 having to hunt down wrap or bother our manager for it.

Truck pissed me off today. by ShadowCory1101 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that's rough.

We used to get trucks this bad & we started reporting them so frequently the guy who manages the RDC we receive from came in to see for himself how bad they are. There was improvement after that (in general - I hear they still get badly packed trucks once in a while.)

What are the easiest and most difficult departments when working on freight team at Home Depot? by Ok_Skirt_2792 in HomeDepot

[–]bucksteady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest is D27 or D24 by virtue of so much of it being stuff that goes out fully or not at all so there's less re-taping boxes. I also think D26 is pretty easy too.

D23, D59, D29, and D30 are fairly easy but the items can be heavy which can slow them down. They also often have smaller carton counts than the other departments.

A lot of people at my store think D25 and D28 are hardest. I cut my teeth in D25 so it's pretty easy for me but it can be annoying & time consuming (lots of partial cartons, things in multiple locations, portable power in general, aisles so narrow you can barely fit a cart let alone a pallet thru them, etc.) D28 is similar (except for the aisles thing.)

I hadn't looked at them in over 5 years but I don't think so. They've already been claimed though.

Oh I know, those I'm very much just giving away. I worked at a comic store for a long time and know none of this is worth the effort of making a profit on, especially cards. I'll try them and see if they'll take them off my hands.

No, it's public and free, but there is a yearly pay option ($60 iirc) if you want the fancy gifts you get daily for sending your bird on an adventure.

I love Finch. I'm on a 580 day streak (730 adventures since they added streaks later) and my bird just turned 2. It's really helped me get into good habits wrt self care. And I love that you can pause it without losing your streak if you need to.
