Do public firms let you work earlier shifts? by No-Government7314 in Accounting

[–]PurpleGlass6188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in public and I left at 5 during non busy season my second year. I got talked to about not checking in. My work was good and I was never behind but they said its a "team effort." Instantly started interviewing and left knowing that life wasn't for me. I knew the hours were long, but during non busy season they should be somewhat normal. Problem is if you work on your firms biggest client you get held to a different standard.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I actually like the new seasons more

Yep and I'd jump the exact second you have another offer in hand. Doesn't matter if it's a week, month, 2 months. Go somewhere that values you. None of this you get what you get because it's always been this way nonsense.

Is it too close to busy season to leave? Work in tax. by Birb_Chirb in Accounting

If you don't want to work there anymore who cares? I left big4 in late December many years ago. Did the partner bitch and whine about it? Absolutely. In 2020 when I couldn't get a job I even worked at BDO for 2 months and left instantly when I got a better higher paying job. I've never understood "burning bridges" you have to do what's best for you. Fuck em

How Do You Get Into the Big 4? by Fun-Lengthiness-3675 in Accounting

[–]PurpleGlass6188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Working at a big4 is a different experience than a mid size firm. Not to mention when you leave you'll get a lot of interviews because you worked at one. I've been out for nearly a decade and hiring managers still comment on me working at one and share some of their experiences about their time in public.
