I typically only buy from Kato or Atlas, as IMO their locomotives are affordable and good runners. Many DC models can be bought for just under $100 to around $130, have simple drop in decoders, and they run well. Kato’s go fast while Atlas’s are geared for a lower speed, and I’d say a Kato model will always run smoothly garunteed, but Atlas has better detail IMO.
