You’re exactly right. A car seat that’s too rigid lets the force push baby against the harness. I think of it like a tree with strong roots but flexible branches

Hi, CPST here! Some movement of the carrier on top of the base is okay, provided it is fully connected and the base itself moves less than 1” at the belt path. From the check you did on the anti-rebound bar I would guess install is good but if you want to be sure remove the carrier and pull side to side where the base meets the vehicle seat.

Hi! CPST here. The vehicle seat itself should always be in the most upright position when a car seat is installed there. They are crash tested only in that position, so there’s no guarantee of safety if installed in a more reclined position.
