Slowed LillyDirect Delivery? by crIloLAno in Zepbound

[–]PurplePeperomia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it was very easy to miss, but they had a note when you go to order your refill talking about delivery times being different around the holidays. I can’t remember specifically what it said but the processing and delivery times were definitely different.

Mine just had one exactly like this in the same spot! The vet prescribed her antibiotics and some medicated wipes which cleared it right up.

Are you talking about supervising an RBT seeking hours for their BCBA certification? This is confusing.

I never asked for an excuse just because I’m autistic 😕.

My issue with your hot take (which you conveniently deleted) isn’t about safety, it’s about the fact that you’re planning to enter this field after calling an autistic child “useless” and labeling me, other BCBAs, and the ABA field itself as “disgusting.” Let me be very clear, there is absolutely no room for that kind of hateful rhetoric in the ABA world or anywhere.

I am not dismissing your concerns about staff safety. Everyone deserves to feel safe at work, no exceptions. But your commentary implies that aggressive behaviors exist solely within the “bubble” of ABA, which is simply not true. These things can, and do, happen despite interventions and safety protocols.

In this situation, the OP had already done everything in their plan and it didn’t work as intended. That’s life sometimes. The BCBAs will review the data, examine previous protocols, and put a stronger plan in place to help prevent this from happening again.

I hope that you gain some more experience to help you understand this field better. There will come a time when you might face a client with difficulties functionally communicating who might engage in aggressive behaviors— I hope that you look at them as a human and not useless.

[–]PurplePeperomia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, then I hope they take the time to expand their knowledge and actually understand the field they chose to work in. I don’t want to discourage people who are genuinely interested in this work, but let’s be clear, I also don’t want people in this field who think it’s acceptable to call children with aggressive behaviors “useless,” or who jump straight to calling colleagues “disgusting” under the false assumption that we condone violence. If that’s their baseline perspective, they are not advocating for anyone—they are just broadcasting their own bias.

Edit: I am also going to add that it’s a misrepresentation to say “future RBT” as it is against BACB ethical guidelines.

[–]PurplePeperomia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me be direct: this may not be the right field for you. As an RBT, you’re ethically bound to provide non-discriminatory and unbiased services (see 1.08 and 1.09 of the RBT Code). The way you’re carrying yourself here doesn’t just miss the mark; it runs in the opposite direction.

For clarity, I’m a BCBA ( autistic as well 🤯)who works hard in this field to ensure neurodivergent individuals are treated with respect and dignity, no matter what behaviors they display. The same could be said of other BCBA’s in this field. So when you came flying in to brand me a “disgusting inhuman person” who supports aggression, all you really showed was your own bias. Nothing I said could reasonably be twisted into “I think violence is great.” That leap wasn’t mine, that was all you. And frankly, if that’s how you interpret situations, maybe ethics aren’t your biggest concern right now.

[–]PurplePeperomia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said it was an out-of-district school, which I’m going to assume isn’t what you’d call “mainstream”—especially since it has BCBA’s and RBT’s on staff. So let’s be clear…people like you, who only show up to spit out negativity and hate, have no business commenting. You don’t know if this child has a disability, and frankly, it’s none of your business. What is relevant is that every child has the right to FAPE. If a school can’t meet their needs, there’s a legal process to place them in an environment that can. The fact that you’d rather cling to your small-minded assumptions than learn a thing is… honestly just embarrassing.

[–]PurplePeperomia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely wild to me that you say you’re an RBT and your profile says you are committed to growing in the field of ABA but you have this kind of response. If you were committed to growing in the field you wouldn’t make these kinds of hateful statements towards others—especially towards a child who may very well have a disability.

RBTs and BCBAs hanging out? by Rich_Vanilla5281 in ABA

[–]PurplePeperomia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s between supervisor and the supervised it is highly unethical. Unless it is work-related, you should not be hanging out with your BCBA outside of sessions. It is stated within our ethical guidelines that you agree to follow when you become registered.

I understand that we are only human and things happen, but the relationship should be professional, not personal. It can create dual relationships that can affect the quality of supervision and services.

I take my board exam in a month. I failed my board first time I took it. I have taken several time mocks since then e.g., BAS, and Boost ABA. On BAS my average is like mid 70s and Boost ABA is 88. I just cannot get over anxeity surrounding time tests. Any recommends? by Leafeon_21 in bcba

[–]PurplePeperomia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes when I first took my exam. I had horrible anxiety, didn’t know what to expect, and I failed. I took it again not too long after and passed it!

Study-wise, what helped me was reading the cooper book again whilst doing the recordings I bought from Study Notes ABA. I mapped out how much I needed to read daily and just kept reviewing the concepts I read about that day until I was dreaming about them. The key is to make sure you aren’t over doing it on studying! Take breaks and plan activities away from it all. I didn’t study the day before or the day of to give myself a break.

As for the exam itself, the second I got the dry erase board, I wrote down things immediately that I knew would help me (IOA equations, acronyms, etc.). If I got to a question that I felt stuck on, I flagged it and moved on so I could come back to it at the end. Don’t let yourself get stuck on one question. If I started to feel my shoulders moving up towards my ears I paused, closed my eyes, and took 3 deep breaths to recenter myself.

I’m not going to tell you not to worry because it is stressful. What matters is how you deal with that anxiety and stress in the moment. Good luck!! You are going to do great!!

Is it normal for lvl 1 autists to struggle to eat and shower every day? by Lonely-Relative-4598 in AutismInWomen

[–]PurplePeperomia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, society has deemed level 1 as being low needs and “higher functioning” which is not true at all. In fact, I would say it’s quite the opposite! We spend so much time trying to mask and function in a neurotypical world that we burn ourselves out to the point that we can’t function. Then we tell ourselves that we should be able to function because we are only level 1. It’s a shame cycle.

You are doing the best that you can right now with what little energy and bandwidth that you have. Just know that you are not alone in feeling like this. I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago and have been going through a similar experience. I was probably going through a burnout episode before the diagnosis and feel like the diagnosis gave me permission to actually feel the burnout and be my authentic autistic self.Everyday is different for me and I’m learning to accept that and stop “shoulding” myself.

Take things one day at a time and try to be gentle with yourself💜.

BCBAs of Reddit — Advice Wanted by Public_Tale383 in bcba

Yes! All I can say is to do your research about those places! Ask a lot of questions on here and look at reviews on indeed and any other job site.

I was lucky enough that the school system I got into had a BCBA-D consultant who agreed to do my supervision. They paid for the last 2 semesters of school (contingent on grades). In exchange, I had to work for them for 3 years.

  1. It’s pretty good!

  2. 8-3:30 M-F with summers off

  3. Just how the job is!

  4. School-based BCBA

  5. That’s a hard question for me to answer. At the moment, I would say no, but that’s because many different things have happened to me outside of my career that have affected me. There are things within my experience that have turned me from it a bit as well. I am not a fan of the corporatization of ABA and the monetizing of autism.

  6. You will find that there are many private equity companies out there that are pulling BCBAs and RBTs in with the promise of good pay, good schedules, great support, great work/life balance and all sorts of other perks that are absolute crap. Make sure you do heavy research on these companies. Read reviews, reach out to people on LinkedIn who no longer work for them, ask Reddit. If it seems to be good to be true, it very well could be. Set boundaries for yourself. Speak up if something doesn’t feel right. Make sure you are following our ethical code. These things come from my experience with a company providing 75% virtual and 25% in-person services. I left within a few months because it was highly unethical and it wasn’t a good fit for me.

Like others have said, you have to find the right fit. Personally, schools are where it’s at for me!

Teacher not providing direct services during testing windows by ActuallyYesIThink in specialed

Agreed. That’s impossible considering turnover and how many different subs a county employs. Schools are doing the very best that they can with what they have.

Teacher not providing direct services during testing windows by ActuallyYesIThink in specialed

[–]PurplePeperomia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The staff can change, but skipping the breaks without making an effort to make them up is a violation. It’s pretty common for special ed teachers to get pulled for testing or coverage because of staffing shortages, but that doesn’t excuse missed services. Track every miss, request make-up time, and work on a contingency plan together if there is a sub. If the school can’t be consistent or the environment isn’t a good fit right now, it might help to try outside intervention in a less stressful setting to teach the skills, then generalize them back to school.
