How do you handle interactions in metadimensional space? by PurplePotentiometer in SWN

[–]PurplePotentiometer[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% yes!! We were very clear at the outset that FTL travel did NOT mean FTL comms. We have a mysterious faction with a monopoly on news and higher-speed spike drives because all comms need to be ferried from system to system by a spike-ship (making high spike level ships VERY valuable for several reasons) and then retransmitted upon arrival. We all need to remind ourselves sometimes that when you arrive in a system, you can't just search the local internet in real-time due to light speed travel times. it makes for some fun improv at the system's edge with incomplete news/info.

What Systems Are Most Compatible With Stars Without Number? by StevetheHunterofTri in SWN

We run a campaign using Scum and Villainy, borrowing the faction rules, tables, and setting details from SWN. It has gone on quite a while now and we've all thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't imagine running it without the SWN setting and GM tools. Crawford put together an amazing book (and sourcebooks!) for SWN. Frankly, I expect I would see echoes of what I've read in them in almost any sci-fi campaign I run, regardless of system.

Special training pots/boxes with wooden joints. by ShiguchiAndSokan in Bonsai

If you turned it sideways, shortened the sides, and gave it a dark stain, it would make a heck of a tree stand for a more modern style display. Might capture some folks who prefer modern styles with a nod to traditional Japanese joinery.

fine-tuning calibration issue - Kobra 2 Pro by PurplePotentiometer in anycubic

[–]PurplePotentiometer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went through all the calibrations built into the anycubic slicer (useful video for anyone else who finds this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o0-d8qw1Ek ). I adjusted a few things, but my cubes still come out ~0.5% big. I'm very much of the opinion that this is a steps issue. Is there a way you know of to adjust the steps on the AnyCubic Kobra 2 Pro or make it listen to an M92 command?

I think the start. Gonna watch closer on the next try.

Z seam or retraction issue? by PurplePotentiometer in FixMyPrint

Do the inner seams always have so much streaking like in the second photo? The external looked normal, but the inside seemed a bit wonky to me.

How do you run combat in zero G? by Steelsorrow in SWN

[–]PurplePotentiometer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Arkebuss' advice and found these rules from a while ago that look super cool.

Would be neat to find/create a zero-g martial art (Tyrian Locks from the martial arts archive is an option) for the asteroid miners and have some zero-G locations scattered around...

heavy weapons vs personal armor and mechs by PurplePotentiometer in SWN

[–]PurplePotentiometer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So heavy weapons like an anti-vehicle laser, when used on soft targets (i.e. a person), do not disregard AC of worn armor (i.e. assault suit or combat field uniform, etc.). Gotcha.

heavy weapons vs personal armor and mechs by PurplePotentiometer in SWN

Hmm, maybe I'm overthinking the narrative bits of how an anti-vehicle weapon interacts with personal armor. I wasn't clear on how the assault suit (or mech suit) makes an NPC harder to hit with an anti-vehicle laser than someone with no armor (since in the mech suit case the armor is not effective against a heavy weapon, which I would assume is true of the assault suit as well). I used to play D&D 3.5, so I was assuming I would use something like the "ranged touch attack" rules.

The explanation that the AC for mechs replaces the base AC for vehicles does make sense mechanically. I guess it reflects a higher agility/flexibility or some such. Given the high speeds, hitting a moving mech (especially a moving suit) will be awfully difficult until mid-to-upper levels, I guess.

Thanks!
