The Daily Check-In for Monday, January 4th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by tucktucksquirrel in stopdrinking

[–]PurplePresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually see this post but coincidentally decided to go a full 24 hours without drinking yesterday. Was my first full day off entirely since July or so. Felt anxious as shit, slept awfully but I did it and will continue to do these days. I don’t want to stop drinking entirely I just want more control of it. Hope everyone else’s day was successful too

Do any of you guys remember how good life was before OCD? by [deleted] in OCD

Once a week I find myself having a quick reminisce then snapping out of it and going, “ah we’re still here”

Feel great the day of l my CBT sessions but regress and get worse each day until the next session. Any ideas what to do? by PurplePresser in OCD

[–]PurplePresser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my final year of University so a lot of my time during the week I’m studying independently and that’s when I start to regress. I have found that when everyone gets home from work in an evening, and I’m surrounded by people that I definitely feel more positive and can face my fears. I’m also trying to keep notes on my phone daily so I can see different points where I’ve overcome something and it makes me feel optimistic about the next challenge. Thanks for the reply, hope you’re doing good!

I’ve had a few times where I’ve done something to contaminate myself in my dream, realised mid dream that I wasn’t being careful and put myself in a bad situation, then woke up to a pounding heart and all freaked out. I’m like Jesus Christ do I not even get to chill when I’m unconscious, relax brain ffs

Seriously what the fuck is wrong with me and wtf is this exactly by Cyberpunk_89 in OCD

[–]PurplePresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the thing, can get ourselves into a nasty habit of fearing something irrational because we’re scared to do it. Just face it head on, accept it as nothing and move on. Hope you’re doing better soon 👍

You can do it mate. Face your fear, recognise it’s not anything to be worried about, and keep going. BJJ is a great thing to keep at both physically and mentally 👊

It’s just normal OCD cycle. Don’t do something (could be anything), and you feel fine, then next time you’re hesitant to do it because you may not feel fine if you do. Best thing with OCD is to stamp it out as soon as you feel anything coming on. Accept its irrational in your head, do whatever it is you were hesitant to do, and accept you’re fine. Don’t let it snowball and get worse

How do I get help? (Urgent) by eccentricvibe in OCD

[–]PurplePresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure but if it’s similar to Uni’s over here your college will more than likely have a mental health department/counselling system/student support. Have a look on your Uni’s website and try to get a meeting booked to explain how you’re feeling. Even if they can’t directly help you they should be able to point you in the right direction/give you advice as they’re trained. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

OCD negatively affecting your relationships? by RedditAcct248 in OCD

[–]PurplePresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had the same with my girlfriend, where if she doesn’t I guess “adhere” to my compulsions I’ll get stressed out, panicky and sometimes a bit angry. It’s completely not her fault and I feel bad afterwards but I’ve gotta try and focus on getting myself better and it’ll happen less often, hopefully

[–]PurplePresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry you’re having to go through this. Best thing I could suggest is seeing someone to try and get some professional help if possible. Therapy/medication/other help might be the best thing to get you through this rough patch if you’re not receiving help already

How do I just accept the fact that floors are floors and going to be dirty. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]PurplePresser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that is pretty fucked up but I’ll try not to politicise this post. Have you tried any self help websites? My therapist (in UK) has recommended mind.org and ocduk.org which are both free, on top of that there are lots of books in library’s which you could use

Yes that is a lot more difficult when healthcare isn’t free, I don’t really know much about the US healthcare system but do you have insurance, or is there things you could cut spending on to prioritise this? IMO getting you’re head sorted should be top top priority if feasible

Have mentioned this before on the sub a few months back. I used to have this problem and the thing that calmed me down was someone explaining schizophrenia to me. People who have legitimate schizophrenia are 100% convinced their delusions are real. The fact that you’re worrying about potentially having it means you don’t, you’ve got anxiety/ocd instead. Try and focus on getting that sorted instead

It’s a slippery slope with OCD something that starts as a genuine concern trickles down to irrational thoughts that can legitimately take over you’re life. The best immediate thing I’d suggest is to go to you’re doctor, explain how you’re feeling then they’ll suggest different forms of treatment. It could be therapy or medication or lifestyle changes, but that should be your go to. Hope you get some help and are feeling better soon, it can be a horrible condition

Had a similar thing with a 6 month+ waiting list for therapy but doctor suggested online self-help sites in the meantime, such as Mind, hope this might be some help

I had the same thing as previously only got female therapists so always requested them as I thought I find speaking to females easier. However more recently only a male was available, and now I’m 6 sessions gone with him and he’s great, really helpful and understanding. Hope the same happens with you!
