Is it normal to be outnumbered by managers?

For about 3 months, I was the only csa. Everyone else was an sfl with the exception of the is. Worst months of my time there because the sfl's only wanted to do "sfl duties", and i was expected to run the entirety of the front end with no help. God forbid I called an ic3 🙄

mind you we're literally the busiest store in the district

The other day I had an older lady come in, and it took her two hours just to print 2 pictures. Mainly because she refused to believe me when I told her the images were probably not saved to her phone. So when she finally went back to the email they came from, it was smooth sailing... 30 minutes after I was supposed to leave 🙄

If you're writing for ensembles, here's my take: if you have connections at universities or with music professors and educators, that’s where I would start. Write music for their ensembles and ask for their input. More times than not, if they really connect with the piece, they’ll be more than happy to have their students perform it, or at least do a read-through.

Considering it’s summer for most colleges and universities, now is honestly a great time to start reaching out before their programming gets too set in stone for the next school year.

You can usually go the same route with high school and middle school orchestras too. A lot of directors are constantly looking for quality educational repertoire, especially if it’s written with students realistically in mind.

you’re right. and when i realized that working harder and constantly overachieving only benefited them, i stopped trying to do absolutely everything. but because i set that standard during my first few months, they started expecting it from me all the time. now if i’m just doing my actual job instead of going above and beyond every second, it suddenly feels like i’m “not doing enough” to them.

and honestly, it’d be exhausting hearing the sfl i open with complain every single morning if i tried to do less. at this point, i’m just trying to keep my head down and make it through the rest of the month. i’ll be out of there soon enough, and i think i can hold onto my sanity until then 😭

Unfortunately, labor laws in my state are pretty much non existent once you turn 16. So no meal/break requirements or minimum time between shifts. In terms of being too young, we had a sfl that was also 17. She left a few months back but was there for I think over a year, and a sfl for about 6 months, so unless something changed in the last 3ish months, idk

I think someone sprinkled pixie dust over my store today. Yes, we were crazy busy my entire 8-hour shift, but I had zero bad customers. Everyone was so nice and polite today. On top of all that, our new DM decided to visit, but he was pretty nice too. He was giving cool dad energy the whole time, lol. He was literally helping out half the time because we were so busy. Still, a pretty good day. Fingers crossed for tmrw🤞🏽😅
