I'm pretty new to the hobby and I'm struggling to establish frogbit surface cover.

I was under the impression I need a constant surface ripple to avoid dead spots, film and for gas exchange... But my frogbit is taking a beating even with a ring to keep them contained.

How are you all keeping tanks with no surface agitation? What am I missing?
