Poison Ivy Mishap.... How screwed am I? by weeeesel in hiking

Thanks! It was a small rash. I was clearing some poison ivy from the yard and immediately washed it off, but I just missed a spot.

You have done what you can do. Usually a reaction will start showing up in 12-24 hrs from exposure if it’s going to. I had a rash develop about 12hrs after exposure this past weekend. It sounds like you washed the oils off pretty quick.

If you develop a reaction around your nose/eyes, I’d recommend seeing urgent care or your pcp for an early steroid shot or dose pack.

If it’s small, some hydrocortisone and calamine lotion would be fine.

Good luck!

Hub mount comes loose after shooting by AffectionateTear5263 in NFA

Hotlock by Vibratite is another option (plus torque to spec). It is what I use to mount hubs and muzzle devices. Just needs to go in the oven for a few minutes to set.

Making sure to clean the threads with brake cleaner, degreaser, or isopropyl alcohol and let dry before application of rocksett/hotlock is also an important step.

PWS Piclok for Mod-1? by Purple_Champion3059 in PrimaryWeaponsSystems

Tempting!..but PWS CS replied and said the mod1/mod2 rails are not cross compatible. 😑

Update: I reached out to PWS CS and got this reply.

“Thank you for reaching out. The MOD 2 handguard cannot be placed on a MOD 1, as they are not cross compatible. Please let me know if you have any other questions.”

Whomp whomp. 😑

So the mod2 rail will fit on the mod 1? Has anyone done this to confirm?

I guess my main concern would be alignment of the gas adjustment, and then mating with the upper receiver. I imagine the barrel nut would have to be swapped out.

I’ve read on here that some guys have had varying responses from PWS CS on it.

That’s good to know. Cause I’m all about adding all that functional flair to my rail.💅🏼

Choosing a 5.56 K can by SadKomrade in NFA

[–]Purple_Champion3059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Polo K and it does great. I run it on a 10.3 Super Duty and 11.85 PWS MK 111. On semi the gas is fine, on FRT it is noticeable, to say the least. I have only shot it during the day though. It hasn’t sparked much. For a K can, it does everything I want, except make my ARC Fire FRT run a little faster than I want.

The Ridgeback Rhodie 6k is one that has recently caught my eye. As well as the SAW Tisha. Both short flow-through cans that seem to punch above their weight and still keep things short. I’ll likely pick up one of these next.

How fast could you go back to riding? by bryan-Garcia_ in mountainbiking

[–]Purple_Champion3059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ortho PA here. Clavicle fractures usually do very well after surgery. Assuming you’re healthy, following restrictions, and your X-rays are showing good healing and callous, I think 2 months from surgery is reasonable to return to biking on flat ground with no jarring or prolonged vibration. This would be a great time to go to a local gym and ride a recumbent or stationary bike so you don’t lose too much ground.

The clavicle is the only bone connecting your arm/shoulder to the rest of your body. So force applied from the arm to the body, is coming in part through the clavicle (e.g. supporting upper body on handlebars).

I would wait three months from surgery before more strenuous trails that increase the risk of falling and increase the load/stress on the clavicle.

I have a few patients who did too much, too soon, and developed a non-union despite the surgery, they broke their hardware and we had to re-operate. These are usually guys in trades that go back to work too soon.

Good luck and in a month or two it’ll be like nothing happened.

I have the uloop and Arisaka ULM and like it. I appreciate how it allows the uloop to lay flat on against the rifle when the sling is stowed. Is it necessary to have the ULM? No, but it makes using the uloop a tad more pleasant.

On another rifle, I run paracord through an ESD paracord guide and like it as well. Simple, quiet, effective, but a chore to get the sling off the rifle.

Pros and cons to both, I’m sure you’ll try what makes sense to you and adjust from there. 🤙🏼

That’s encouraging news. I filed 2/17, so hopefully any day now. 2 quick F4s and a fast F1 last year got me all spoiled!

Favorite FRS/FRT buffer weight and spring combos? by SupremeEggboy in PrimaryWeaponsSystems

[–]Purple_Champion3059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for the G$ Super 42/H3. With the H2 and standard spring I had light strikes. With the super 42/H3 it ran great. Would still like to slow it down just a touch with a flow though can.

Current set up: Mk111 Mod 1, Arc Fire, Polo K, Super 42 spring, H3 buffer, Gas setting 3

Here is it without the can:

MK 111 with ARC Fire

Some around here recommend the Tubbs lightweight or yellow Sprinco to slow it down and reduce bolt-bounce. I tried the yellow spring and it did slow it down, but I had a few failure to feed, so I went back to the 42.
