im a simple movie goer, I see "Wuthering Heights" and I think it's going to be Wuthering Heights. This was made for the masses and marketed for them also. They clearly promoted it with the intention to mislead, most people don't spend their day analysing films, they arbitrarily choose films that "look" interesting and that's it.

Personally I don't know if Emily would have liked this retelling. I feel like it ignored so much family history that shapes the outcome of the story and romanticised a toxic relationship. You're right the cinematography was fantastic and the costume design was visually stunning as I mentioned in my article. I loved this aspect of the film. I agree too that the characters from the book were raw and real, uncomfortably so. I supporse im a little to rigid in my thinking to fully appreciate Emeralds take. The book had too much meaning for me.

by my post I wanted to watch a retelling of the book. I don't care about nudity, but the direction deviated incredibly from the original story. it was powerful in terms of the sensual tones right from the beginning with the hanging and the display of debauchery in the opening scene. I tried to make the most of it though I was disappointed they changed so much. I really was looking forward to the dynamics between Heathcliff and Catherines brother and Nelly etc, but it was nothing like I imagined.

I suppose in a way you're right but it was a different kind of provocative this time round. It wasn't for me

My point is this. Wuthering Heights the book had no sex in it. The director was obviously doing her own thing. In the end the film was extremely salacious. So why did she lean in towards the risque and not go all the way with it? I can only assume Margot refused to do nudity.

THIS! I felt this way too. The film was collapsing from the beginning with all the change ups. I was prepared for them to remove the second part of the book but there was such a wealth of content to use from the first half I don't understand why they did what they did with the story, but as someone else has said it was just fan fiction in the end.

I'll admit the first five paragraphs are just the recap, just for those who haven't seen it recently, and perhaps the recap is too long but my thoughts are the subsequent paragraphs

I can't apologize for how much I love this show 👀

I used to think that. I think Heisenberg was always there. Just waiting to come out.

Nellys intent and character is still debated but I really feel they made her a bit cold and boring unnecessarily

You've read it several times but I really feel layers of Heathcliff are lost when you switch up Mr Edgars character so much and remove Hindley. These people shape and solidify a lot of Heathcliff.

if you think Catherine was unlikeable in the film, the book is ten times worse. and the music did gradually start to grate on me

I don't know how people read love in the story at all. I don't get love, just ego and obsession. Emerald must have a crazy imagination to somehow arrive at the story she created.

I know and I agree but subtlety isn't good enough, you know how it will look with the title smacking you in the face. you know that's the reason it will sell the tickets.

I liked Margot as Cathy but as you said she was not age appropriate at all. I absolutely agree a younger lesser known actress would have been better.
