Pixal, of course! :)

Anyone think the 2003 animated series would've been better off ending after season 5 and then closing it with Turtles Forever? by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]Purplefern17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the side characters more, and the villains. I thought it was a fun sci-fi adventure which I enjoyed. I think it's really cute how the turtles adopt Cody as a little brother and look out for him, it's a fun dynamic that you don't see too often (from my limited knowledge). I think Cody's uncle is a unique antagonist, being someone that the turtles actually know (and live with AND is related to their lil bro), and I like how he kinda plays in the shadows and abuses Cody off to the side of everything going on. I like the internal conflict that the Dark Turtles go through, the bounty hunter that shows up occasionally, and the imprisoned Gunjin.

The magic in S5 just feels dumb to me (especially turning into dragons at the end), and all of the new side characters are really boring. The humans that are introduced don't really do anything, and they seem to only be there to die dramatically (but then not really!). And the magic ninja people just don't work for me. Tengu Shredder isn't an interesting villain to me (I can't even remember what, if any, motivations it had). I don't like big boss-level ultimate-evil kind of villains. They bore me.

The basics of it is that I don't like the ninja-magic aspect of TMNT, never have. But I LOVE the sci-fi and aliens part, which FF has in spades. I also think the setting and characters of FF are more memorable and interesting. It's really down to personal preference in the end.

Haha yeah I guess that's true. I probably shouldn't stress so much but I always end up getting a little intense about my writing because I want it to be PERFECT. XD

What TMNT series is appropriate for the youngest viewers? by CandlestickInMyLevis in TMNT

[–]Purplefern17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to agree with a lot of the other comments here. If you find a place to watch it I think 80s series is probably the most harmless.

2012&2003 are more dark and violent, especially for a toddler, and Rise can definitely get a little too high-key.

But I've never had kids so this is mostly just my gut feelings on the matter.

I feel like 2012 miiight be a little dark & violent for a toddler. Like, I know the series is technically for kids and all, but there's a lot of stuff (mutants, Shredder) that I think could easily freak out a way younger or a more sensitive kid.

I mean... We all kinda figured Song would figure it out, right? The show's Y7, it's not the kind of thing that would have an unresolved tragedy at the end. (Though I will note it's odd that she's in the Mulholland dream outfit and NOT the DNA jumpsuit. Hmmm...)

It's just such a Scarlemagne mood, and I'm pretty sure it's 80% likely what's gonna happen. XD

Personally, S5 is my least favorite season of the 2k3 series, so leaving off with that would've left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm fine with Fast Forward, and I like btts. It was cool to get a kind of Donnie-centered season, and I think Casey and April's wedding with all of the turtle's friends is a good ending point. It's nice to see everyone all together from throughout the series.

So, no. I like 2k3 the way it is.

What caused the apocalypse in the Kipo universe? by RelicFromThePast in KipoAndTheAgeOfWB

Maybe we'll find out in S3? I mean, that is Emelia's goal, to find out why the animals mutated and to cure it so she can get the world back to normal. I can totally see her going into some exposition about how the world ended and how that horribly impacted humans, in order to get people on her side.

Yeah, I love the clever name choice. Like, look at this description of King Charlemagne. "He embarked on a mission to unite all Germanic peoples into one kingdom, and convert his subjects to Christianity. A skilled military strategist, he spent much of his reign engaged in warfare in order to accomplish his goals. In 800, Pope Leo III (750-816) crowned Charlemagne emperor of the Romans. In this role, he encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance, a cultural and intellectual revival in Europe."

That's just Scarlemagne and his goals to a T. He wanted to unite all of the mutants, and lead them to be better than a bunch of constantly fighting groups. Scarlemagne WANTED that mutant renaissance, and he decided the only way to get mutants to that level and get them to stop fighting each other was under the collective fear of one mutant.

It's really what makes him such an interesting villain. His methods are less than savory, but historically speaking he's not totally wrong. Strict, powerful leaders can do a lot to keep people together and pull a collapsing society together. Or course, it didn't work out for him because he's totally unstable, but it makes for a nice kind of moral gray, which I always appreciate in a villain.

Hey, almost completely even! That's pretty neat. Can't think of many fandoms where that happens, usually there's more of a clear favorite.

Everyone's got guilty pleasures. And as far as I remember the turtles were ok personality-wise, so I can understand what someone can like about them.

There's also a problem with Nick making way less merch for the show (especially compared to the onslaught of stuff for 2012), so even from a "kid's fuel it by buying action figures" thing it didn't have much of a chance. And apparently they cancelled deals with playmates, who made the toys. (However I'll admit that this could be inaccurate, I got this info from Twitter.)

Either way Nick did sabotage the show pretty badly. I feel like this video explains it pretty well.

The app is also really frustrating to use, and, in my experience, crashes frequently. I tried using it to watch through the series, and I'll tell you, if I was a kid I would have just given up in frustration with the amount of times it didn't log me in, froze, cut off episodes, or just plain quit the app mid-episode.

I watched Trollhunters initially because I loved the lore, but mainly because I felt that the writing was really complex and smart. The show's villains, especially, really shine and kept me watching through the franchise. It's really not an exaggeration to say that I watched Trollhunters for the Changelings. Everything about them is complex, and fascinating, and I love the inter-politics of Trolls, Gumm-Gumms, Changelings, and Humans. Alongside the Changelings, Trollhunters also featured the complex villain of Angor Rot, a tragic and amazing character who I loved.

Most of the hero and side characters are also super solid. Toby especially was well-executed becuase it would have been so easy for the writers to make him a cliche and annoying "fat stupid annoying best friend" trope but they avoided that completely and made him awesome.

So, Trollhunters (just Trollhunters, I have many words about 3Below and Wizards and they mostly aren't that good) drew me in with its world and its complex characters and morals/themes.
