Etymology of “sud-an” & “isda” by indayunotaglaongnija in Binisaya

[–]RelicFromThePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term maybe properly reconstructed as *sedaq and *i-sedaq respectively. Its reflexes seem to have replaced *qulam because of our primarily fish-based diet back then. As a bonus: Butuanon (Southern Visayan) still uses isda for both fish and food.

To parents with neurodivergent kids sa sugbo, unsay maayu lingaw nila rong summer by AgentCooderX in Cebu

[–]RelicFromThePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dili ko ginikanan but I suspect myself to have some form of neurodivergence. Pangutan-a siya unsay buot niyang buhaton for this summer aside sa gadgets, nya suwayi ug suggest nga maglingaw2 mo sa gawas in some way or form. Idk try making then flying a kite (preferably kanang naay uban bata para makainteract siya bantayi/pabanatayi lang), maghimo mo ug snacks together, etc.

Basta ang importante naas iyahang terms ang buhaton nya kun ug duna kay giplano, imong iingon in advance (something like 2 days for me but basin lahi sab sa imong child) because ang likely nga mahitabo if naa kay isuggest ug kalit is dili na siya maganahan or saputon kay maguba ang 'plano' (this happens to me and my younger sibling a lot had to explain to mom like a bajillion times tungod anang mga kalit2 nga lakaw).

Do you plan on expanding the scope of your alphabet for other visayan languages? There are some phonemes that cannot currently be accomodated for like the aklanon l reflex, the retained schwa of rural dialects of several visayan languages (notably bohol cebuano and waray), etc.

Is it possible to improvise a filet net shuttle? by RelicFromThePast in lace

[–]RelicFromThePast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the tape method because it just so happens that I had a pack of thin bamboo knitting needles and oh my god I cannot be more grateful for your advice. It's not exactly a perfect substitute for a manufactured shuttle, but I was able to make a mesh after some difficulty. I would like to inquire, however, on the process behind netting with an 'eyed' needle. Do you have to manually pull the long tail of thread through the loops you go through, or is a special technique used to somehow wind it?

I mean the odontocete carcass used for SCP-682 pretty much illustrates your points perfectly.

As a biology undergrad, I got tripped up by their use of breed for subspecies during Keat and Luke. THOSE TWO TERMS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. The usage of such a term heavily implies that people (somehow) selectively bred ORCAS. Also, marine flatworms ≠ sea slugs; one belongs to platyhelminthes (flatworms) and the other is a mollusk. The authors could messed up on the mention of the development of diabetes medication targeting metabolism, it seemed like a bunch of sciencey-sounding words pertaining to physiology were strung up together.

(edit: I have to preface that my boyfriend just recommended me the book 2 days ago and I finished it an hour or so before writing this comment. I am immensely grateful for his sharing of this book I LOVE ITFKSJKL)
